The Rounder

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Brett Collson
Brett Collson

"Played tight for an hour, folded mostly then I made a score," Rounders Character Mike McDermott once famously said, talking about a game with Johnny Chan at the Taj.

But it might as well have been former PokerNews Managing Editor and current Fantasy Wired bossman Brett Collson, a Buffalo local who turned up to play today, and appeared to do exactly that, playing mostly tight until he just pushed all in from the button over one active foe's 2,500 chip open.

Collson's opponent passed, allowing him to move back around the 15,000-chip mark and return to what appears to be the World Series of Folding.

"I had nothing, but he raised and I decided I don't care about the money, I'm just going to out play the guy, I'm going to out play this guy, this hand," again McDermott, but we can reasonably infer that's what Collson was thinking, at the very least.

Chris Harker
Chris Harker

Grinder Chris Harker has found his way to a spot right underneath chip leader Blake Napierala, and since Napierala's table broke, a spot right beside him as well.

Harker's ascent above 100,000 in chips included one massive hand where he was gifted heaps with a set of eights against a flush draw that failed to materialize.

Other than that, he claims his good fortune has been the result of the grind.

The Rob Davis Method

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Rob Davis
Rob Davis

In a tournament filled with all-in pots and massive confrontations leading to huge swings and heavy reentry action, Rob Davis has taken another route on the way to a spot among the leaders late.

He's played bluff catcher a few times, picked up at least one four-bet pot without showdown, and found himself on a slow and steady climb all day. Davis is now sitting on 80,000 and counting, likely riding a single-bullet to a big bag.

Napierala Decants Deciantis' Lead

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Blake Napierala
Blake Napierala

One night removed from his runner-up finish in the 2016 Summer Slam $1,000 Deep Stack High Roller, Blake Napierala has turned up here and relieved Carm Deciantis of her chip lead.

She limped in from middle position and Napierala made it 2,400. Deciantis called and they saw a {10-}{9-}{5-} flop heads-up. Deciantis checked and Napierala led for 3,700. Deciantis check-raised to 10,000 and Napierala flatted. The turn came the {2-} and Deciantis shipped it in. Napierala snap-called with two jacks and Deciantis had the {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}.

The river bricked out and Napierala doubled up to 121,000 and the lead into Level 9.

John Grace shoved short for 5,100 and Toronto, Ontario, Canada's Carm Deciantis called from the small blind. The big blind then shipped it in huge, and Carm called off for her tournament life and almost 40,000 with the {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}.

The big blind had the {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and Grace the {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. Deciantis took the lead straight away on the {k-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{j-Spades} flop and held through the {2-Clubs} turn and {6-Spades} river to bust Grace and double through into the chip lead nearing the end of Level 8.

In The Spotlight

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Johnny Vegas
Johnny Vegas

In a further attempt to steal the spotlight from "friend" Skip Letourneau, Johnny Vegas has just moved into the top spot on the leaderboard.

Vegas busted Nathan Kross when he flopped the joint and Kross shoved a flush draw. Kross whiffed and a hand later, Vegas bet three streets with the {a-}{q-}, making a one-card queen high straight on the river and getting paid off to move up to 80,000.

Kross was seen reentering a minute later.
