Life Outside Poker: Boston Rob Shares Story of Costa Rica Poker Raid w/ Daniel Negreanu & Cheryl Hines

Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.

In the 21st episode, Connor speaks with Survivor legend Boston Rob, aka Rob Mariano, about growing up near Fenway Park, learning poker at the age of 6, studying psychology at Boston University, applying for Survivor and winning Season 22, his recent appearance on Deal or No Deal Island and filming an upcoming season of The Traitors.

Boston Rob also revealed a story about Costa Rican authorities raiding a mansion known to host high-stakes poker games during a 2006 filming that included Daniel Negreanu, Josh Arieh, David Williams, Michael Mizrachi and actress Cheryl Hines.

"(Gambling mogul) Calvin (Ayre) had a big party at the house, and they came in guns drawn," he said. "And we were fine, but we all had to stay at the party until they checked our passports and everything. I think it was a little bit of a shakedown. But we had a good weekend."

Fourie was not willing to let go of 8♥5♥ for a turned pair of eights and dealt the final blow.

Sheldon Grove had re-entered to the same table he had busted from and was now playing on the outer tables after the line-up for the live stream had switched during the break. He took on Bernard Gossard and called the shove of the French player, with both players hesitating to show their cards.

"I called you," Grove insisted and wanted Gossard to flip em over first.

"I take an ace or queen," Grove said. The 9♥9♦9♠ flop added a nine to his outs, but he already hit the A♣ turn. Nothing changed with the 4♠ river and Gossard was eliminated for now.

One hand later, Maureen Bloechlinger opened to 1,300 and Devid Berlin called in the next seat. Rahme min-raised but folded when Bloechlinger made it 8,500 to go.

Toran Tate had raised to 3,300 and earned a caller in Wouter Van Der Merwe as well as Nic Ioannoy. Kumi Pather then squeezed to 15,000 and Tate called, as did Ioannoy.

The trio checked the 8♥3♦2♣ flop to the A♣ turn and Tate now bet 25,000. Ioannoy folded but Pather pushed all-in. After using one time bank, Tate asked for a count and the all-in was for another 40,800 on top. Another two time banks later, Tate called.

The river was the insignificant 10♠ and Pather doubled to a massive stack.

On the 6♠3♦2♥ flop, the button isolated and Tate folded.

"I win," Ioannoy grinned and Jehan Richards replied "definitely," well aware of Ioannoy's hand ranges.

The button had A♣K♣ and Ioannoy was ahead with the A♦3♣. There was no surprise with the 5♦ turn and 8♣ river for the triple up.
