Zulch Gets Dicey on the Flop

Level 17 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Alvin Pillay three-bet to 60,000 preflop and was called by both Reagan Benjamin and Jayson Zulch, leading them to the K53 flop. Pillay continued for 40,000 and Benjamin called.

Zulch then raised to 105,000 and Pillay reluctantly folded, as did Benjamin.

Pillay teased him into showing and Zulch flipped over one of his cards, the 5. In the same motion, his 3 was also revealed, perhaps on purpose, and Pillay was left stunned.

"What did you have?" Benjamin was asked, who replied "pocket fours".

Dirk Steenkamp summed it up as follows: "What the fuck are you doing?"

Singh Among the Next Casualties

Level 17 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Jeebaun Singh
Jeebaun Singh

Clive Kikia and Jeebaun Singh left the tournament area at almost the same time and the latter lost a flip with QQ against the AK of Alexander Rizvi. The field has now already been whittled down to only 59 hopefuls and the rapid descent towards the money bubble on the higher blinds is in full swing.

Rush Hour for Steenkamp

Level 17 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Calvin Ferreira
Calvin Ferreira

Dirk Steenkamp has experienced his usual roller coaster ride throughout the entire tournament day and just notched up two eliminations in a row.

In the first hand, his 62 out of the big blind hit a full house on the A2266 board to beat an opponent with the A8.

He then had the K5 in the small blind and got it in against Calvin Ferreira on the J44 flop. Ferreira was down to around 60,000 and jammed the AQ. The 7 turn left Ferreira drawing dead to make the K river a formality.

Another table broke and Lissa Szymonowicz ran out of chips to become the next casualty.

The Plan for the Rest of the Night

Level 17 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

The eliminations keep coming at a more rapid pace now and the screens show 65 players left with 43 of them set to be in the money. That number may be corrected shortly, however, as the action has picked up.

Earlier in this level, tournament staff confirmed that at least ten full levels will be played for tonight with one additional level possible thereafter depending on the progress for Day 2.

Ka-Ching for Kitching

Level 17 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

A shorter stack got it in with the 88 only to run into the QQ of Pierre Kitching. The 943K10 board missed both players and pocket queens secured the knockout. Also no longer in cointention on the same table is Bradley Moore as he now sat down in a Side Event.

Adam Gets a Shove Through

Level 16 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Three ways to the J825 turn, Rayhaan Adam faced a bet of 12,000 by Kiran Moodley and the call by SM on the button. He check-jammed for 134,000 out of the big blind and Moodley folded.

SM did the same and said "I hope you show better than a five" to which Adam replied "king jack I can show".
