Mercier Sends Galfond Home

Level 15 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Phil Galfond
Phil Galfond

Phil Galfond was all in for 226,000 with the {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} against the {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for Jason Mercier. The {Q-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop didn't have much on it for Galfond, but the {J-Hearts} on the turn did give him some added outs with a straight draw. Problem was, Mercier had two of then tens that could help Galfond complete his Broadway straight.

The river completed the board with the {2-Diamonds}, and that wasn't what Galfond needed, sending him out the door in 14th place.

Holz Busts Perper

Level 15 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Dan Perper was all in for about 400,000 with the {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} against the {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs} for Fedor Holz. The flop, turn, and river ran out {10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, and Perper was gone.

Marchese Busts To Mercier

Level 15 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Tom Marchese got it all in for 284,000 over a Jason Mercier open and Mercier made the call.

Marchese would need some help, holding the {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} versus Mercier's {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. He got some on the {j-Hearts}{5-Spades}{k-Hearts} flop, but the {q-Hearts} turn put him behind again.

Finally, the {6-Clubs} river bricked for Marchese, and he said goodbye 16th.

Hellmuth Climbs Back

Phil Hellmuth is right back in the thick of it again after taking a big pot from Andrew Robl.

Hellmuth bet 110,000 into a {2-Spades}{q-Spades}{q-Clubs}{k-Clubs} board to the turn and Robl called. The river brought the {2-Clubs} and Hellmuth fired again, making it 220,000.

After using two time bank chips thinking about it, Robl called. He mucked when Hellmuth turned over the {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} full house.

Perper Fighting Back

Dan Perper came into the day second to last in chips, but has since fought he way up a little bit. He was first seen shoving all in for 298,000 from the button after Fedor Holz opened with a raise to 36,000 from the under-the-gun position. Holz folded, and Perper won the pot.

He then won the next hand to boost his stack to about 400,000.

Two Pair for Shak

Fedor Holz bet 16,000 on the {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop, and Dan Shak made the call to see the {6-Hearts} land on the turn. Holz slowed down with a check, but Shak wasn't going to give any free cards and fired 35,000. Holz called.

The river was the {10-Diamonds} to pair the board, and both players checked.

Holz announced king high and showed the {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}. Shak had two pair with the {J-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, and he won the pot.

Lamb Jams from Small Blind

Level 15 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Phil Galfond raised to 45,000 on the button, and Ben Lamb reraised all in for around 400,000 from the small blind. Fedor Holz thought about it from the big blind, then folded, and Galfond quickly followed suit to give Lamb the pot.

Perkins Cracks Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth opened to 35,000 from early position and when it folded over to Bill Perkins in the big blind, he pushed all in for 359,000.

Hellmuth snap-called with the {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} and Perkins would need help with his tournament life riding on the {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}.

The ace on the {a-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop did the trick, and Perkins rode to the double up when the {j-Diamonds} turn and {7-Clubs} river did not improve Hellmuth.
