Duta Gets Value from Johnson

Picking the action up in a battle between Florian Duta on the button and Richard Johnson in the big blind, both players checked through the flop of 88J with around 85,000 in the middle.

On the 6 turn Johnson led out with a bet of 30,000 which Duta quickly called.

On the 3 river Johnson checked to his opponent. Duta slid out a bet of 55,000 and after some thought, Johnson called.

Duta showed A9 for a nine high flush, and Johnson turned over Q8, his flopped set of eights having been overtaken on the river, allowing Duta to scoop an early pot.

Welcome to Day 2 of the 2024 GG Poker UK Poker Championships Main Event, being held at one of the United Kingdom’s premier poker rooms – Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club in Nottingham.

The Main Event features a £560 buy-in coupled with a massive guarantee of £500,000, and attracted a total of 1,258 entries across four live flights and two online flights, resulting in a prize pool of £603,840.

A total of 237 players have navigated their way to Day 2, with Simon Davidson (1,950,000), Joe Smith (1,600,000) and Owen Dodd (1,495,000) leading the way.

188 players will be in the money, with a minimum cash resulting in a payout of £1,000, and first place netting the champion the princely sum of £102,000.

Notable names who are still in the mix include Alex Montgomery (925,000), John Bradley (862,204) Guy Taylor (670,000) and Tom Middleton (604,719), all of whom will be hoping to put together a deep run.

Day 2 commences at noon local time, where players are scheduled to play twelve 50-minute levels with blinds starting at 10,000/15,000 with a 15,000 big blind ante. Players who reach Day 3 will return to 60-minute levels, with blinds starting at 125,000/250,000 with a 250,000 big blind ante.
