Moon Ousts Defending Champ

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Josh Reichard
Josh Reichard

Bryan Moon and Josh Reichard got all in preflop from the blinds.

Moon: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Reichard: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}

Moon had his opponent dominated, and Reichard called for spades. Just one appeared on the {2-Spades}{5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop, but Reichard now could chop if a deuce hit. A {3-Clubs} opened up still more chopping outs, but the {k-Hearts} river sent the pot to Moon, and we won't have a repeat champion here at MSPT Ho-Chunk Gaming.

Kirby Burned by Lives

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Matt Kirby lost an unfortunate battle of the blinds.
Matt Kirby lost an unfortunate battle of the blinds.

Action folded to the small blind at Matt Kirby's table, and he limped in. Kirby put him all in the big blind, and the player called off for 27,500.

Kirby: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Small blind: {9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}

A {k-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop left Kirby needing to pair up, which he did when the {a-Diamonds} hit the turn. A {9-Clubs} river gave his opponent two pair though, and Kirby was left with just six big blinds.

Wazwaz Finds a Gem

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Rob Wazwaz got a pleasant surprise when he looked at his second card.
Rob Wazwaz got a pleasant surprise when he looked at his second card.

Rob Wazwaz pushed all in from the button for about 20,000, and he was called by Bryan Moon in the blinds. Wazwaz flipped {a-Hearts}{a-Spades} exclaiming loudly that he'd only looked at one card before shipping it.

"Put two jacks out there please," Moon said, showing {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}.

No such miracle happened, as the community came {6-Spades}{2-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}, keeping Wazwaz's aces best for the double.

Sell Not Sold

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Jason Sell has a well-above average stack.
Jason Sell has a well-above average stack.

A player in the big blind bet 15,500 into a pot of about 40,000 against Jason Sell on a final board of {8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. Sell tanked for a couple of minutes before tossing in calling chips. His opponent hesitated before flipping {q-Clubs}{9-Hearts} for an airball, and Sell showed down {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades} to take the pot.

Blumenthal Fizzles Out

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Eddie Blumenthal couldn't get a stack built up today.
Eddie Blumenthal couldn't get a stack built up today.

We found Eddie Blumenthal all in for his last 4,400, and action folded to Pat Kellogg, who called in the big blind.

Blumenthal: {k-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Kellogg: {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}

"I've never won a race at one of these MSPTs," Blumenthal said, throwing up his hands.

The dealer began spreading the flop, revealing first the {2-Diamonds} then the {k-Hearts}, prompting an "ohhh" from the table. An even louder collective "ohhh" came when the third card was revealed: {4-Clubs}, giving Kellogg a set.

"See!" Blumenthal said, vindicated.

A {k-Spades} hit the turn, giving Blumenthal trips to keep him drawing live.

"Now, don't do that," he told the dealer. "Because you know you're not going to do it."

"Quad him up!" one of the other players said.

The river was a {q-Spades} though, and one of the most dangerous players in the field wished his tablemates good luck as he left.
