"I Don't Even Know Why I Bet That River"

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante
Carl Caranna
Carl Caranna

Carl Caranna saw action folded to him on the button and limped in. James Callanan was next to act in the small blind and announced a raise of 800. Steven Kipp called in the big blind and Caranna called as well, taking action three ways to a flop of {9-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. Callanan made a continuation-bet of 800 and both Kipp and Caranna called.

The turn came {2-Clubs} and Callanan checked. Kipp bet 1,700 and Caranna called. Callanan folded to take action heads up to the river {2-Diamonds}. Kipp bet another 4,500 and Caranna quickly called.

Caranna tabled {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} upon calling and Kipp mucked his hand.

"I don't even know why I bet that river," said Kipp. He continued talking for a few seconds more about how he knew Caranna had a jack and that his tens were no good. "My mind just went stupid for a second," added Kipp as Caranna stacked his newly-earned chips.

Beeding Backs Into It

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

Torii Beeding saw action folded to him in the cutoff and opened to 600. He received calls from both Gregg Haycraft in the small blind as well as the player in the big blind. All three players checked the flop {5-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{j-Spades}, bringing the turn {8-Spades}.

Action checked to Beeding and he threw out a bet of 1,200. Only Haycraft called, taking action heads up to the river {4-Hearts}. Haycraft checked and Beeding bet another 3,200, which Haycraft called.

Beeding showed {7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for a straight after hitting his backdoor gutshot on the river, resulting in Haycraft sending his cards to the muck.

"I didn't put you on that," said Haycraft.

"I didn't either," responded Beeding, stacking his chips as he made his comment.

Taylor Sends One To the Rail

Level 3 : 200/300, 300 ante
Brian Taylor
Brian Taylor

A player raised to 1,000 under the gun and received a call from the player on her left. Brian Taylor also called from the hijack, as did the players in the cutoff and on the button. The five saw the flop come {q-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} and action checked to the cutoff, who bet 1,500. All but one player called, which was the early-position caller.

The turn then came {k-Spades} and all four players checked, bringing the river {9-Spades}. The under-the-gun player went all in for about 15,500 and Taylor announced he was all in over the top. The cutoff and player on the button quickly folded and it was time for a showdown.

Taylor showed {j-Spades}{10-Hearts} for Broadway and the all-in player shook her hed, tabling {a-Hearts}{9-} for a rivered two pair that was no good and quickly scooped up and mucked by the dealer. Meanwhile, Taylor now finds himself with over two stacks early in Level 3 and is one of the largest stacks in the room.

Wheeler Hits the Flush

Level 3 : 200/300, 300 ante
Mike Wheeler
Mike Wheeler

There was over 4,000 in the middle from preflop action with three-way action between an under-the-gun player, Mike Wheeler in early position, and David Blankenship in the cutoff.

The flop came {10-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{8-Spades} and action checked to Blankenship, who bet 7000. The under-the-gun player called and Wheeler check-raised to 4,700. Blankenship sent his cards to the muck and the player who was under the gun called.

Action was then heads up to the turn {7-Clubs} and both players checked. The river fell {2-Hearts} and the under-the-gun player checked. Wheeler fired out 3,000 and quickly was called.

Wheeler showed {k-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for a flush and his opponent sent his cards to the muck, earning him the pot with the second nuts to add to his stack, bringing him just shy of three starting stacks within the first 90 minutes of play in the afternoon.

Bujorian Fires Twice

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

There was a single-raised pot that saw action go five ways to a flop of {2-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}. Action checked to Phil Bujorian in the cutoff and he made a bet of 3,000. The next three players to act all folded, one of which was Greg Collins, and the final player left in the hand called from early position.

Action was then heads up as the turn came {6-Hearts}. The early-position player checked over to Bujorian, who fired out another bet of 2,000. The player in early position decided his hand was not worth the further investment and sent his cards to the muck, resulting in Bujorian taking down the pot.

More Familiar Faces Arrive; Field Surpasses 100 Before First Break

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

A few more familiar faces have recently been seen taking their seats inside the Golden Gates Poker Parlour and the tournament clock now reads 102 entries, meaning the 100-mark has been surpassed before the first break of the day. Registration is still open for four-plus hours with unlimited reentries, so that number is expected to continue to climb as afternoon turns to evening.

Brown Wins at Showdown

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante
Stuart Brown
Stuart Brown

Stuart Brown saw action folded to him on the button and opened to 1,100. He was three-bet to 2,700 by the small blind and made the call, taking action heads up to a flop of {7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. Both players checked.

The turn came {k-Hearts} and the small blind bet out 1,500. Brown called and the river fell {2-Spades}. Both players checked once more to take the hand to showdown.

The small blind turned over {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for the nut no pair and Brown tabled {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades} for a pair of fours, good for the pot along the way.
