Day 1b Started
Welcome back to PokerNews coverage of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Golden Gates $360 Regional Event.
One of four flights has been played to its completion and Day 1b is set to get underway Thursday at noon local time. The field size for Wednesday’s Day 1a saw more than a 33% increase from the 120 entries that were logged in November, 2019’s edition of this same event. The 161 entries from Wednesday’s flight will look to set the pace for increased field sizes all weekend long with the $150,000 guaranteed prize pool likely to be surpassed long before the final flight.
Seventeen players have already earned their seats into Sunday’s Day 2 with Luis Rosa (641,000) leading the way. Greg Geller (390,000) and Nate Zoller (251,000) are just a couple more of the regular faces at the Golden Gates Casino and Poker Parlour that also found a Day 1a bag, and another solid field is expected to turn up this afternoon to try and add their name to the Day 2 roster.
Like Day 1a, players receive 25,000 in chips to start. Levels are 30 minutes in length with 15-minute breaks at the completion of every four levels. Unlimited reentry is available until the start of Level 13 for this Regional Event, and play is scheduled to go 15 full levels unless 12% of the field is reached before that time.
Chips are sure to fly all tournament long and PokerNews will be on hand to catch all the action. Stick around for all the fun.

"All In on the First Hand!" screamed David Blankenship from one corner of the room. "Not me," he then added with a smile.
All of the chips were in the process of being sent to Matthew Stolmeier, who was under the gun with and had gotten stacks in against Niels Rikhof's from the cutoff.
The board read , giving Stolmeier top set and earning him a double on the first hand of the day. Meanwhile, Rikhof headed straight to the registration desk to get back in on the action with a fresh stack.

There was around 10,000 in the middle on a board reading and a player in early position had a bet of 6,000 in front of him. Action was back on the player as his opponent, Phil Kiphardt had raised to 16,000 from middle position.
The early-position player thought for close to two minutes and then folded face up. Kiphardt quickly tabled , showing pure air with nothing more than a busted gutshot straight draw and proceeded to rake in and stack his newly-earned chips.
