Alsup Rivers Lucky Set to Eliminate Opponent

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Rich Alsup
Rich Alsup

A player from middle position raised to 2,000 and MSPT Hall of Famer Rich Alsup raised to 6,000 from late position.

Action was on the hijack player who four-bet jammed for a little less then a starting stack and only Alsup called holding a little more in chips.

Rich Alsup: {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Alsup was ahead with his made hand until the {5-Clubs}{a-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop hit the felt pairing his opponents ace.

The turn came the {k-Clubs} improving Alups's opponent to two-pair and just as Alsup was getting ready to count out his stack, the dealer dropped the {j-Spades} on the river giving Alsup a set of jacks to win the pot.

Vanalstyne Straightened Out by Alsup

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
James Vanalstyne
James Vanalstyne

Rich Alsup raised to 2,700 from the hijack and found three callers bringing action four-ways to the {q-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop.

Action was checked to Alsup who continued for 4,500 and got a fold from the button player while James Vanalstyne check-raised to 12,000 from the small blind.

Marshall Pagaling check-folded his big blind while Alsup called and the {9-Spades} fell on the turn. Vanalstyne moved all-in for a little over a 30,000 starting stack and Alsup snap-called.

Rich Alsup: {j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
James Vanalstyne: {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Alsup pulled ahead after turning a gutshot straight and the {2-Hearts} river eliminated Vanalstyne from the tournament.
