Kyrylo Kobzyev Emerges as Day 1c Chip Leader

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Day 1c Chip Leader Kyrylo Kobzyev
Day 1c Chip Leader Kyrylo Kobzyev

The third of four Day 1’s has come to an end here at the Mid-Stakes Poker Tour $1,100 (1.5M GTD) Main Event. After generating a total of 776 entries, just 107 remained after 15 levels of play, which brings the total number of players moving onto Day 2 to 216 thus far.

Today's entries bring the total amount of entries for the tournament (Days 1a through 1c) to 1,557 — which is already enough to cover the $1.5 million guarantee.

Standing tall by the day’s end was Kyrylo Kobzyev of Ohio, who came out on top with 523,000 in chips. Just barely behind him is Jeremy Koehler, who ended the night with 522,000.

Notables who also managed to survive into Day 2 include Michael Newman (202,500), Aaron Massey (196,000), Eric Baldwin, and Shannon Shorr, who made an impressive charge after registering late to accumulate 281,000.

Many big names fell short today, including WSOP Main Event champions Joe Cada and Ryan Riess. Others to get knocked out were Joseph Cheong, Jesse Sylvia, JJ Liu, Kathy Liebert, Lee Markholt, and Matt Affleck. They will all be given a last chance to bag should they decide to play on Day 1d tomorrow.

Stay tuned to PokerNews as we bring you action from the fourth and final Day 1 of the Mid-Stakes Poker Tour $1,100 (1.5M GTD) Main Event, which will begin tomorrow at 11:10 a.m. local time.

Koehler Spikes an Ace; Assumes Chip Lead

Level 13 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante
Jeremy Koehler
Jeremy Koehler

Jeremy Koehler opened to 7,500 from early position and found one caller in the big blind.

The flop came {j-Hearts}{2-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and it was checked to Koehler, who continued for 12,000. His opponent tanked and eventually put in his remaining stack of around 30,000. Koehler called and hands were tabled.

Koehler: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Big blind: {q-Spades}{9-Spades}

Koehler was behind and didn't find any help on the {2-Clubs} turn, however, a {a-Diamonds} drilled the river Koehler sent his opponent to the rail.

Koehler appears to be the current tournament chip leader with about 400,000 in chips.

Liebert Gains Ground

Level 11 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Kathy Liebert
Kathy Liebert

A player in early position open-shoved for their last 12,500 and action folded around to Kathy Liebert in the big blind, who counted out her own stack before sliding it into the middle.

Liebert: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Early position player: {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

"That's a fair fight," a player at the table said.

Fair or no, the {k-Hearts}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs}{j-Spades}{4-Diamonds} runout left Liebert best with kings and sevens and she sent her opponent to the rail.

Liebert, who has fired bullets in both Day 1a and 1b, is looking to bag as the day races toward its end.

Cada Collects With Kings

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Joe Cada
Joe Cada

A player opened for 1,500 in the cutoff and another player in the small blind called. Joe Cada then three-bet to 6,500 from the big blind.

The initial raiser tanked and then four-bet to approximately 13,000 and action folded back to Cada, who immediately went all-in. His opponent called off for just shy of 40,000 and hands were revealed.

Cada: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Cutoff: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

Cada had a commanding lead and would maintain it on the {2-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Hearts}{5-Hearts} runout, eliminating his opponent in the process.

Newman's KO's Opponent With Straight Flush

Level 4 : 100/300, 300 ante
Michael Newman
Michael Newman

A player in the lojack position opened to 700 and was called by the player in the hijack. Action folded to Michael Newman on the button, who squeezed to 3,500. Only the initial raiser called.

Newman continued for 3,500 after being checked to on the {4-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs} flop, which his opponent called.

The turn brought the {9-Hearts} and Newman's opponent again check-called a bet from Newman.

The river brought the {7-Hearts} and Newman's opponent shoved for his remaining stack. Newman quickly called and tabled {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for a straight flush. His opponent could only show {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and was eliminated.

The field from Day 1b
The field from Day 1b

Today marks the halfway point of the Mid-Stakes Poker Tour $1,100 (1.5M GTD) Main Event Day 1's now that Days 1a and 1b have already played to completion. Today, players will compete in Day 1c and try to chase tournament chip leaders Sean Banahan of Day 1a (587,000) and Ben Farrell of Day 1b (501,000).

So far, the event has attracted 781 entries total (251 from Day 1a and 530 from Day 1b), which is expected to get substantially larger as the weekend draws near. This total brings the total prize pool from entries alone up to $753,665.

Play is set to begin at 11:10 a.m. local time. Players will begin with 25,000 in chips and levels will be 40-minutes throughout the tournament. Blinds will begin at 100/100 and a big-blind ante will be introduced at the start of level four (100/300/300). Players will get 15-minute breaks at the end of every three levels and a 45-minute dinner break at the end of level nine.

Late registration is available until 6:25 p.m. and players will have the option re-enter an unlimited amount of times before then. Fifteen levels are scheduled to be played, which means action will conclude at around 10:40 p.m. The surviving players will bag and tag their chips and advance to Sunday's Day 2. Play will be nine-handed as tables no longer have dividers on them. Fully vaccinated patrons may choose not to wear a mask.

Some notables that have already made it to Sunday’s Day 2 include Jordan Cristos, Faraz Jaka, Nadya Magnus, Nick Pupillo, Mike Dentale, John Morgan, and Jared Jaffee.
