Day 1c Completed

Kyrylo Kobzyev Emerges as Day 1c Chip Leader

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Day 1c Chip Leader Kyrylo Kobzyev
Day 1c Chip Leader Kyrylo Kobzyev

The third of four Day 1’s has come to an end here at the Mid-Stakes Poker Tour $1,100 (1.5M GTD) Main Event. After generating a total of 776 entries, just 107 remained after 15 levels of play, which brings the total number of players moving onto Day 2 to 216 thus far.

Today's entries bring the total amount of entries for the tournament (Days 1a through 1c) to 1,557 — which is already enough to cover the $1.5 million guarantee.

Standing tall by the day’s end was Kyrylo Kobzyev of Ohio, who came out on top with 523,000 in chips. Just barely behind him is Jeremy Koehler, who ended the night with 522,000.

Notables who also managed to survive into Day 2 include Michael Newman (202,500), Aaron Massey (196,000), Eric Baldwin, and Shannon Shorr, who made an impressive charge after registering late to accumulate 281,000.

Many big names fell short today, including WSOP Main Event champions Joe Cada and Ryan Riess. Others to get knocked out were Joseph Cheong, Jesse Sylvia, JJ Liu, Kathy Liebert, Lee Markholt, and Matt Affleck. They will all be given a last chance to bag should they decide to play on Day 1d tomorrow.

Stay tuned to PokerNews as we bring you action from the fourth and final Day 1 of the Mid-Stakes Poker Tour $1,100 (1.5M GTD) Main Event, which will begin tomorrow at 11:10 a.m. local time.

Karambinis Gets Clipped

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Chris Karambinis raised to 9,000 first to act and action folded around to the player in the big blind, who shoved for their remaining 50,000. Karambinis snap-called.

Karambinis: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}
Big blind: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

The board ran out {8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-Spades}, which failed to improve Karambinis and he was forced to surrender some chips.

Ultimately, it was a small chink in the armor, as Karambinis appears to be the current chip leader with approximately 470,000 chips.

Newman Gives it up

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Michael Newman opened to 6,000 from the lojack and was three-bet to 16,500 from the player in the hijack. Action folded back around to Newman, who called.

The flop came {j-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Newman checked, prompting a 9,000 bet from his opponent. Newman folded and conceded the pot.

It was a small setback for Newman, who has steadily increased his stack throughout the day. He currently sits with about 180,000.

Ace on the River for Shorr

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Richard Ma opened to 6,500 from the button and directly behind him, the player in the small blind shoved for 55,000. Directly behind him, Shannon Shorr asked for a count and re-shoved for over 100k. Ma snap-folded and hands were tabled.

Shorr: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Small blind: {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

The {9-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop and turn left Shorr needing to hit one of his many outs, and the {a-Clubs} river did just that — giving Shorr a winning flush and knocking his opponent out of contention.

Shorr, who was short-stacked just a little while ago, is now sitting pretty with 170,000.
