The player first-to-act opened for 3,500 and action folded to Eyal Bensimhon in the lojack position, who three-bet to 10,000. It was then folded around to the player in the big blind, who went all in for 16,500.
The original raiser folded and Bensimhon called.
Bensimhon:
Big blind:
"This is how I crack aces," Bensimhon declared.
However, the board ran out and Bensimhon was forced to double his opponent up.
On a flop of , a player under-the-gun bet 6,500 and was called by Jerod Smith on the button and the big blind.
All three players checked on the turn, however, when action checked to Smith on the river, he bet 16,500. The big blind folded and the player under-the-gun called after a bit of thought.
Smith mucked without forcing his opponent to show and his opponent also mucked without showing.
Faraz Jaka opened to 5,000 from middle position and action folded around to the player on the button, who shoved for their last 60,000. It was folded back to Jaka, who called to put his opponent at risk.
Jaka:
Button:
Jaka was well ahead, but the flop gave his opponent a set and a commanding lead.
The turn and river were of no help and Jaka's opponent doubled through him.
On a board of , Justin Young check-called a 14,000 bet from middle position against a lone opponent in the cutoff.
The filled the river and Young checked again. This time, the player in the cutoff fired a hefty 55,000 into the middle. Young tossed a single chip into the middle to indicate a call and his opponent revealed for a straight. Young mucked and was knocked down to under 100k in chips.
From August 20-22, the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) will head back to Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood, Iowa, which is actually situated just across the border from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for a $1,100 buy-in, $200,000 guaranteed Main Event. PokerNews will be offering live updates from the stop.
A series of $70 and $260 satellites starting at the end of July will feed into the Main Event, which will feature two starting flights. Day 1a will take place at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 20 with Day 1b taking place at the same time on Saturday, August 21. The surviving players from both flights will then return for Day 2 at 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 22 to play down to a winner.
In August 2020, a record-breaking MSPT Main Event was held at Grand Falls. That $1,100 buy-in tournament was the first mid-major poker tournament in the United States in nearly six months due to the pandemic, and the 518 entrants not only surpassed the venue’s previous best field of 238 runners in 2015 but also became the largest major ($1,000+ buy-in) in Iowa history. In the end, 47-year-old Mark Collins, a systems administrator from the St. Louis area, came out on top to win a $107,706 top prize and his second MSPT title. He previously won the MSPT Season 9 Canterbury Park for $102,076.
More recently, the MSPT hosted a $1,100 Main Event at Grand Falls back in January, which is when Chad Bjorkmanbested a 488-entry field to win a $101,450 top prize. Then in March, Eric Atchison topped a 794-entry field to win the MSPT $360 Regional Event for $46,020 and his second title in two years.
