Mark Kroon Tops Day 1b Chip Counts

The 2014 PPC Aruba World Championship $2,200 Main Event surpassed the $200,000 guarantee, and with 42 entries on Day 1b brought the total field size to 138. When play ended after 12 levels of play, 17 remained, and that means 52 have advanced to Day 2 on Monday.

It was veteran poker pro and PPC Pro Mark Kroon who ended with the most chips on Day 1b with 128,000. Kroon played next to his mother, Marilyn Guess, for most of the day, and Guess herself would end with a very respectable stack of 74,200. Kroon had several big hands, and two big ones came against Arun Chugani. In the first, Kroon called a large river bet by Chugani with fourth pair. He would later eliminate Chugani with the {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds} against Chugani's {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}.

Sitting not far behind Kroon was John Ott, who ended the day with 114,500 in chips, and his day included flopping a royal flush. Ott is sitting in second place on the PPC Player of the Year leaderboard. With a deep run, he will have an excellent shot at taking down that title. The person in first on the leaderboard, Parry Shaw, also survived the day with 57,300 in chips.

Other notables to advance to Day 2 included Ryan Franklin (77,500), Chris Bolek (51,800), Josh Kay (75,400), Stuart Prieto (12,200), and Todd Boghosian (71,900). Boghosian crippled the popular Ronnie Bardah with aces against kings, and Bardah would hit the rail soon after. Marc Lowe, Marcia Kuntz, Sam Medina, and Danny Lobato also did not survive.

Play will resume on Monday at 1 p.m. local time. Stay tuned to PokerNews as the field plays down to the final table on the way to determining the 2014 PPC Aruba World Champion.

Kroon Takes Out Chugani

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

There were two limpers, including Arun Chugani, when the action got on Mark Kroon who put in a raise. It was folded back to Chugani who moved all in for slightly less than 30,000. Kroon made the call and turned over {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}.

"You got me, nice hand," said Chugani while turning over {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}. Chugani would plead for a jack but would not get it as the dealer put out a board of {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{7-Clubs}{K-Hearts}.

17 players remain and Kroon surges to 150,000 in chips, well ahead of anyone else remaining in the day 1b field.

Two Tables Left

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Todd Boghosian (center)
Todd Boghosian (center)

Todd Boghosian opened for 3,800 and the player in the small blind moved all in for 15,200. Boghosian had already doubled this player up twice and looked at his opponent and joked "if I give you three double ups it's going to be murder-suicide" and then made the call turning over {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts}. His opponent flipped over {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} and it was off to the races for the two.

The flop came {10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs} keeping Boghosian in the lead. The turn was the {3-Hearts} and the river was the {7-Clubs} and peace was maintained in Aruba as Boghosian delivered the knock out.

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

The player from the hijack opened to 2,500 and was called by Chris Bolek in the cutoff as well as the player on the button and Parry Shaw out of the big blind.

The flop came {6-Spades}{5-Hearts}{2-Spades} and it was checked to Bolek who bet 4,000 and was quickly called by the woman in the cutoff. The other two folded. Bolek would check the {7-Diamonds} turn and quickly fold when faced with a bet of 9,000.
