Lee Takes From Romain, Torbergsen Halts Slide

Level 4 : 200/400, 50 ante
Chiming Lee
Chiming Lee

We are now up to five tables and 27 players with France’s Arnaud Romain one of the new arrivals, though unfortunately the Frenchman has got off to a shaky start.

We caught Romain in action in a heads-up pot against China’s Chiming Lee on a flop of {j-Hearts}{a-Spades}{6-Clubs} just as Lee (big blind) checked the action over to Romain, who, sitting in middle position, appeared to have been the pre-flop aggressor and now led out for a bet of 3,000 into a pot of roughly the same.

Lee responded with a check-raise to 10,500, which Romain quickly called and the dealer burned and turned the {10-Diamonds}, which brought checks from both players.

The {6-Diamonds} river paired the board and with just over 24,000 in blinds and antes in the pot, Lee now led for a hefty 15,000. Romain did not take long to make the call and looked shocked when Lee rolled over {6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} for rivered trip sixes, eventually pitching his cards into the muck face down and dropping down to 18,875 while Lee climbed to 64,000.

Another player whose tournament now appears to be going in the right direction is Norway’s Marius Torbergsen, who has halted his early slide by taking down a pot from Craig Hartman.

Pre-flop it was Zuo Wang who was the pre-flop aggressor, making it 1,000 to go from the cut-off and finding a caller in Hartman on the button before Tobergsen squeezed to 3,800 from the small blind.

After big blind Su Hao got out of the way and Wang also folded the action went heads-up to a flop of {j-Hearts}{3-Spades}{j-Spades}, which Torbergsen took down with a pot-sized continuation bet after Hartman folded immediately.

Yu Holding His Own, Tan Takes Early Lead

Level 3 : 150/300, 25 ante

Despite grumbling loudly about how tough his table looked when he sat down Winfred Yu only has himself to blame for inviting some of the world’s best poker players to the tournament, but appears to be doing just fine at present, recently taking down a pot from Steve O’Dwyer.

O’Dwyer was the pre-flop aggressor, making it 800 to go from under-the-gun plus one with Yu making the call from the big blind to take play heads-up to a rather dry flop of {4-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, which brought a check from Yu and a 500 continuation bet from O’Dwyer, which Yu quickly called.

The {j-Hearts} turn brought checks from both players, as did the {7-Diamonds} river with Yu being the first to show his hand, taking down the 2,750 pot with {a-Spades}{j-Spades} after O’Dwyer mucked.

It looks as though it is China’s Xuan Tan who has taken an early lead however, and we arrived at his table in time to see him embroiled in a decent sized pot against tablemate Marius Torbergsen.

We caught the action on the turn on a board reading {j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts} with over 6,000 already in the pot just as Torbergsen (big blind) checked the action over to Tan on the button, who fired for 3,000, which after some deliberation Torbergsen called.

The {j-Diamonds} river saw the Norwegian player check the action over to Tan once again, and the Chinese player quickly tossed out a bet of 10,500 into a pot of a little over 12,000. With around 25,000 left in his stack, Torbergsen had a decision to make but eventually elected to fold leaving Tan to rake in the pot and climb to 80,000, which makes him the current chip leader, though it is still early days.

Field Grows to 23, Chan Takes From Wu

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante

The field has now grown to 23 players split over four 6-handed tables with Winfred Yu, Gabe Patgorski and Xuan Tan some more of the new arrivals.

We caught a hand developing over on Peter Chan’s table with Benjamin Wu the pre-flop aggressor, making it 500 to go on the button. Chan, sitting in the small blind, re-raised to 1,800 and after big blind Mikita Badziakouski got out of the way Wu made the call to take play heads-up to a flop of {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}.

That was it for the betting in the hand with Chan and Wu seemingly content to check it down to the river with the {6-Spades} landing on the turn and the {10-Hearts} river completing the hand. Chan rolled over {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}, which was enough to take down the hand after Wu mucked.

Stealth Boat for Greenwood, Field Grows to 18

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante
Lucas Greenwood - Steve O'Dwyer
Lucas Greenwood - Steve O'Dwyer

We caught an interesting hand at the close of level one between Lucas Greenwood and Steve O’Dwyer, the latter of whom was the pre-flop aggressor after opening the action to 500 from under-the-gun with Greenwood (big blind) the only customer.

Greenwood checked the {10-Spades}{k-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop over to O’Dwyer, who chose to continuation bet 700 into the 1,000-pot with Greenwood tossing out a quick call.

The {10-Hearts} turn brought a second check from Greenwood and O’Dwyer checked it right back bringing both players to the {6-Clubs} river. The Canadian player now led, throwing out two red 1k chips for a bet of 2,000 into the 2,500 pot.

O’Dwyer looked pained over the decision but grudgingly threw in the call and looked as shocked as the rest of the table when Greenwood flipped over {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds} for a turned full house. Greenwood climbed to roughly 55,000 while O’Dwyer looked to have around 45,000 after the hand.

The field has now grown to three six-handed tables of 18 players in total with Alexandros Kolonias, Benjamin Wu, Su Hao, and Vlado Banicevic all taking their seats. We will endeavor to update the player list when we get a full copy later or as players sit down.

Up to Nine

Level 1 : 100/200, 0 ante

There are now two tables on the go with the late arrival of Norway's Marius Torbergsen and the USA's Craig Hartman and there has been some player shuffling with Xi Luo, Peter Chan, Mikita Badziakouski and Hartman over on the one table and Tobergsen, Cheok Ieng Cheong, Luke Greenwood, Steve O'Dwyer and Liang Yu over on the other.

We expect more movement as the late arrivals trickle in, but it is still very much early days here and several late arrivals, including Alan Sass and Tony Cheng, are over at the registration desk but have yet to buy-in and take their seats.
