Cao Climbing, O’Dwyer Wins One From Sontheimer

Level 17 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Hand-for-hand continued, though there have been some chips changing hands. In the first hand it was a limped pot between Peter Jetten and Rui Cao in a battle of the blinds.

Both checked the {k-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} flop, and after Jetten checked the {8-Clubs} turn Cao took a stab for 40,000, which Jetten called.

The {q-Spades} river saw two more checks, Jetten rolled over {10-Clubs}{9-Hearts} but threw it into the muck when Cao revealed {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} to take the hand and climb to 2.1 million, while Jetten dropped to 1.45 million.

Over on the other table, it was O’Dwyer who was the aggressor, making it 85,000 from the button and Steffen Sontheimer defended from the big blind.

The flop fell {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{q-Spades} and saw no betting, with Sontheimer also checking the {3-Diamonds} turn. O’Dwyer made a delayed c-bet of 75,000 and that was enough to take it down.

Leong Drops Below a Million

Level 17 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

No bigger pots have emerged in the last few hands and Chan Wai Leong just dropped some chips to become the second player below a million.

Mikita Badziakouski raised to 90,000 and Leong called from the big blind, then checked the {J-Hearts}{9-Spades}{4-Spades} flop. Badziakouski continued for 60,000 and Leong called. Both checked the {8-Clubs} on the turn and the {5-Diamonds} on the river brought a check by Leong. Badziakouski let his shot clock run down to one second before announcing a bet worth 250,000 and Leong used one full time bank extension before folding.

Cao Takes From Loeser

Level 16 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Rui Cao took some chips from Manig Loeser, who also burned one of his timebank chips in the process of thinking things over.

It was Cao who was the aggressor, making it 60,000 to go from the cutoff and Loeser made the call from the big blind to take the action heads-up to the {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{5-Clubs}.

Loeser checked and Cao bet a tickly little 45,000 c-bet, and the German player threw out the call. The {6-Hearts} turn saw both players check and the {4-Spades} river saw Loeser bet once again.

Cao however, showed no such restraint and decided the right amount to bet was 140,000. This sent Loeser deep into the tank, where he remained for the full 30-seconds, burning through a precious time back chip before making the fold to drop to 1.85-million while Cao climbed to 1.7 million.

Small Pot for Badziakouski

Level 16 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Mikita Badziakouski limped in from the small blind and Steffen Sontheimer checked out of the big blind. On the {K-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Spades} flop, Badziakouski checked and called a bet of 35,000 before doing so again for 130,000 on the {J-Hearts} turn. The {4-Spades} on the river was checked through and Badziakouski rolled over the {K-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for two pair.

Sontheimer mucked and said "Of course, I had you all the way," while Badziakouski raked in the pot.

Cao Takes From Chidwick Before Hand-for-Hand

Level 16 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Just as Marius Torbergsen was in the process of busting there was also a decent sized pot in progress over on the other table between Rui Cao and Stephen Chidwick.

We picked up the action on the turn with the community cards spread {k-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{q-Hearts} {3-Spades} and close to 300,000 already in the pot. There was no betting on the turn, with Cao (UTG) checking the action over to Chidwick (UTG+1) who checked it right back.

The {2-Diamonds} river saw Cao lead for close to a pot-sized 250,000 and Chidwick ran the clock down the full 30-seconds and tossed in a time bank chip. Eventually, the Brit made the call, but could only muck when Cao turned over {k-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for two pair to take the pot.

Torbergsen Busts with a "Short Deck Move"

Level 16 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Marius Torbergsen
Marius Torbergsen

Mikita Badziakouski limped in from early position and Marius Torbergsen filled up from the small blind, Wai Chan Leong checked his option in the big blind and the flop fell {4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. Torbergsen moved all in for his last 335,000 and Leong folded.

"That is kind of a short deck move, eh?" Badziakouski joked and Torbergsen nodded without saying a word. After some consideration, Badziakouski tossed in a single chip for the call.

Marius Torbergsen: {K-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Mikita Badziakouski: {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}

Torbergsen had plenty of outs, but the {8-Hearts} turn and {10-Spades} river were not among them to see the Norwegian bow out just shy of the money. All remaining 10 players will now go on hand-for-hand mode with two minutes deducted from the clock for every hand dealt.

Small Pot for Badziakouski; Torbergsen Short

Level 16 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Steve O'Dwyer limped in from the small blind and Mikita Badziakouski in the big blind raised to 100,000, O'Dwyer called. On the {Q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop, O'Dwyer checked and folded to a bet of 100,000 by Badziakouski.

A few hands later the action folded to Dietrich Fast in the small blind and he asked for the stack size of Marius Torbergsen in the big blind, then pushed all in. Torbergsen folded and dropped to 12 big blinds.

The Start Into Level 16

Level 16 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

As already mentioned, Isaac Haxton busted in the very first hand to reduce the field to the last 11. What happened after that in the first 20 minutes of the new level as we watch up to real time?

Steffen Sontheimer extended his lead with aggressive raises and three-bets, while Marius Torbergsen lost some chips. Dietrich Fast four-bet all in against Wai Chen Leong and that got through.

Apart from that, Manig Loeser chipped up some through Rui Cao with {K-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for top pair while Cao then slipped some more on a {Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{3-Hearts}{7-Spades} turn. Ivan Leow check-raised from 100,000 to 325,000 in a battle big blind versus button and forced a fold.

As of now, there are 30 minutes remaining in the penultimate level of the night.
