Ilaj Gets Tiny Value on Scary Board

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante

Ian Gascoigne opened to 300 from middle position and got called by Ishaq Ilaj in the cutoff, Peter Thorpe on the button, and Halil Hassan in the small blind.

They went to a flop of 10JK which checked to Ilaj, who fired 700. Only Thorpe called.

On the 5 turn, Ilaj bet 1,100 and Thorpe called again to see the Q complete the runout. Ilaj put out a small bet of 1,000 and after thinking it over for a while, Thorpe called.

Ilaj showed two pair with QJ, and Thorpe flashed a queen before he mucked.

Demetriou Rivers a Flush, Mohammadi Mistakes a Bet Size

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante
George Demetriou - Gholamreza Mohammadi
George Demetriou - Gholamreza Mohammadi

There were already around 5,000 chips in the pot on a flop of K510 when the action checked to Gholamreza Mohammadi in the hijack, who fired 2,200. Jai Walker folded, Nick Hicks called from under the gun, and George Demetriou called from middle position.

The J turn checked around to the 7 river where Hicks checked, and Demetriou made a bet of 8,000. Mohammadi went into the tank and was riffling his chips while letting out sighs repeatedly. Eventually, he called, and Hicks snap-folded.

Demetriou quickly tabled 106 for a rivered flush, and Mohammadi mucked.

The hand wasn't quite over, though, as Mohammadi claimed he thought the bet was 3,500, and not the 8,000 that was clearly in front of Demetriou. After arguing with the floor, Mohammadi realized he had no choice but to cough up the chips, but he didn't seem too happy about it.

The Demetriou Show Continues

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante
George Demetriou
George Demetriou

George Demetriou has gotten off to a flying start on Day 1c of the Main Event.

He just flopped a set of jacks and stacked Jai Walker, who held pocket kings, then the following hand happened.

Gareth Devereux opened to 300 from the hijack and Michael Rosaman called on the button. Demetriou called from the small blind before Gholamreza Mohammadi made it 1,200 to go from the big blind. All three players called.

On the monotone 746 flop, Demetriou checked and Mohammadi fired a continuation-bet of 1,500. Devereux folded and both Rosaman & Demetriou called.

A 10 landed on the turn and again Demetriou checked, then Mohammadi announced a bet of 3,500. Rosaman called, and Demetriou ripped his stack into the middle. Mohammadi had around 15,000 behind and decided to fold, which left Rosaman with a decision.

'What do you have, a flush draw?" asked Demetriou. Rosaman stayed silent and smiled.

"A pair and a flush draw?" asked Demetriou again. Eventually, Rosaman elected to fold, and Demetriou's great start got even better.

Higgins Calls With Third Pair

Level 2 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

There were around 15,000 chips in the pot on a full board of 8AJ37 when Yue Zhang fired out a half-pot bet of 8,000. Simon Higgins was the player with the decision and only needed a few seconds before he made the call.

Zhang showed 107 for a pair of sevens, but Higgins showed 86 for a pair of eights to scoop the pot.

Higgins showing that he won't be pushed around!
