Early Eliminations

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

A Short Day for Masters

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

We're not sure of the preflop action, but we do know that David Masters got his stack of approximately 20,000 all in preflop holding the {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and was way behind the {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} of Daniel Wilson. Masters seemed to know he was in for a short day as he was up out of his seat waiting for the board.

Masters wore a solemn expression on his face as he helplessly watched the board run out {k-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{q-Spades}{a-Clubs}. Masters wished the table luck and then headed out of the tournament area.

McFadden is Dunn

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Patrick McFadden had moved all in on an {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop and Christine Ann Dunn was tanking. After several minutes she made the call and McFadden showed {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}. "Erggh," came Dunn's reply as she flipped {A-Spades}{5-Spades}.

The turn was the {5-Hearts} and Dunn shot in front and McFadden was eliminated when the {3-Clubs} changed nothing on the river.

Henderson Knocked Out by Mackey

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Daniel Henderson moved all in for his last 15,000 or so and received a call from John Mackey. The rest of the field got out of the way and the cards were turned up.

Henderson: {k-Spades}{j-Hearts}
Mackey: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Henderson was behind but drawing to two live cards. The {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop wasn't very interesting, but the {9-Diamonds} turn was as it delivered Henderson an open-ended straight draw. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {J-Clubs} on the river.

"Jacks win," the dealer said before Mackey quickly corrected him.

"Straight," he said. Indeed, Henderson had rivered a pair of jacks but the cards gave Mackey a winning queen-high straight.

Cody Tooled Up

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody opened to 3,500 from early position before Jason O`Toole made it 8,200 from late position. Cody called to see a {4-Spades}{2-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop which both players checked. The same lack of action occurred on the {4-Hearts} turn before Cody bet 8,500 on the {Q-Spades} river.

O'Toole quickly called and Cody showed {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} which was good enough to win him the pot.

The Thrill of a Day 2

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

There’s something special about making Day 2 of a big poker tournament, and make no mistake this is a big one.

There is camaraderie amongst the players as well as rivalry. Some of them will have spent last night researching their opponents on the internet; looking at relative stack sizes and seat position. Making plans for who to Three-bet and who to avoid in the early skirmishes.

When some asks “How are you?” they know what it means and it is answered with something like “Twenty eight thousand, just.” It is the stack size that matters; the only thing that matters at this moment.

Everyone will have a Day 1 tale to tell. Whether it was how they were down to their last 10k in the first level after that horrible beat before fighting their way back to an average stack, or how they had a soft table and were able to chip up consistently throughout the day.

That’s all in the past now, the key is to make Day 3. Now that would be a tale to tell.

PokerNews will be bringing you all the action throughout the day.
