Frank Romanello
Frank Romanello

If you heard the surname Romanello, you'd no doubt think of European Poker Tour and World Poker Tour champion Roberto Romanello. He's one of the UK's most popular players, but he's not the Romanello of focus in today's tournament. That honor belongs to his father, Frank Romanello.

While both Romanello's player the Main Event, Roberto busted fairly early. On the flip side, his father is making a deep run, though he did just lose a massive pot that saw his stack of 250,000 or so get cut down to 60,000.

Roberto, who is watching his father from the rail, explained that his dad started playing for fun in the last few years, due in no small part to his son's success. Roberto, who has a brother that is fond of the game, decided to bring his dad to Galway and put him in the event.

It's getting close to the money, so that decision could very well prove fruitful. In the meantime, Frank made his way over to his son and immediately began talking strategy. When it comes to the game of poker, the Romanellos are nothing but focused.

Macdonnell Gets Almighty Scare

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Benjamin opened to 7,000 preflop from the cutoff before Marc Macdonnell made it 16,600 on the button. Spragg came back over the top with a four-bet to 27,500 but Spragg quickly moved in for about 120,000.

sighed and then called.

Spragg: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Macdonnell : {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

The flop came {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Spragg was freerolling for a huge pot, Macdonnell looked on anxiously but he faded the diamond on the {10-Clubs} turn and {8-Clubs} river to split the pot.

Action From the Feature Table

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

We happened by the feature table just in time to see Christopher Morkan moved all in for 25,700 and receive a call from Spain's Guilabert Bernabeu on the button. The blinds folded and the cards were turned on their backs.

Morkan: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Bernabeu: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

It was a flip, and Morkan was on his feet asking the dealer for a little luck. The {2-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop seemed safe enough, as did the {2-Hearts} river. All Morkan needed to do was dodge an ace and queen on the river, which he did when the {10-Clubs} blanked on the river.

"Thank you," Morkan said as he retook his seat.

Bernabeu, who got off to a quick start today, has fallen back down to earth rather quickly.
