More Day 1a Casualties

Level 4 : 200/400, 50 ante

The hopes of Martin Soukup to add a second Unibet Open Main Event title to his poker resume have been cut short here in Dublin as he was among the latest players to bust. Soukup has another chance to run up a stack for Day 2 in tomorrow's turbo heat with levels of 20 minutes each and he may very well be joined there by Tomasz Kozub.

Kavanagh Out in the Main Event; Reard Ousted in High Roller

Level 4 : 200/400, 50 ante
Alexandre Reard
Alexandre Reard

Stephen Kavanagh and Frida Andersson clashed in a battle of the short stacks and the former ended up all in and at risk with the {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Andersson barely had him covered with {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} and won the flip thanks to a board of {J-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{8-Spades}.

The final nine of the €2,200 High Roller were moved right in front of the feature table and UnibetPoker.fr ambassador Alexandre Reard was just eliminated in 9th place with five spots paid. Short he moved in with the {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and saw Michael Mazilu go all in with the {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}, Kevin Killeen looked up both shorter stacks with the {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}. The board came {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and that was it for Reard, while Mazilu tripled up.

Shine Takes a Hit

Level 4 : 200/400, 50 ante
Cathal Shine
Cathal Shine

On the river of a board {10-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{J-Hearts}, Szabolcs Vari checked over to Cathal Shine, who simply bet 15,000 for just more than the pot. Vari had fewer than that behind and snap-called with the nuts, holding {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} for the straight, and Shine took a hit as his two pair with {K-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} were no good.

Shine remains among the bigger stacks, though, and holds nearly two times the starting stack.

Small Pot for Wilkens

Level 5 : 300/600, 75 ante

Emil Brunnberg returned from the second break with fewer than half the starting stack and invested 2,800 in a three-bet pot with neighbor Marc Wilkens in a battle cutoff versus button. Brunnberg checked the {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop and Wilkens carefully cut out a bet of 2,500, which did the trick to force a fold from Brunnberg.

Other notables such as David Docherty and Anders Berg have no chips remaining anymore, as they were among the most recent casualties.

The High Roller Bubble Bursts

Level 5 : 300/600, 75 ante
Janos Kurtosi
Janos Kurtosi

Benny Glaser has taken over a commanding lead with five players remaining in the €2,200 High Roller and was also responsible for the money bubble to burst. Before that, Jack Sinclair and Kevin Killeen had been eliminated and Janos Kurtosi ended up as the bubble boy.

In a battle of the blinds at 2,000/4,000/4,000 and an average of 135,000, Glaser clashed with Kurtosi and cracked the {A-Spades}{A-Hearts} of his opponent with {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} thanks to a board of {K-Spades}{9-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{10-Spades}. Two hands later it was all over for Kurtosi, who got his last few chips in with {A-Spades}{6-Hearts} and Glaser looked him up with the {9-Clubs}{8-Hearts} as initial raiser in the hand. The board came {K-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} and Glaser paired his eight on the turn to reduce the field to the last five.
