De Almeida Assimilates [Removed:398]'s Stack

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante

The dealer announced the seat open on table ten and [Removed:394] was spotted on his way out. His cards were still tabled as the pot was pushed to Pierre De Almeida. While [Removed:398] had been ahead preflop with the {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}, he was drawing very thin after a {8-Spades}{6-Spades}{3-Spades} flop as De Almeida had flopped a flush with {k-Spades}{q-Spades}.

No miracle runner-runner straight flush came to the rescue as the {7-Clubs} turn and {5-Diamonds} river both bricked.

Small Pot to Lappin

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante
David Lappin
David Lappin

The feature table was switched during the break and the former TV highlight had been on David Lappin, who was hovering around the starting stack for a while. Now in the thick of the outer field once more he took on Eric Mertens as they headed to the {7-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{7-Clubs} river.

Lappin bet 5,700 and Mertens opted to fold. "That was the first hand he won," the Dutchman joked with regards to the Unibet Poker ambassador.

Santala and Dahl Knock Out Fantoli

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante
Daniel Fantoli
Daniel Fantoli

In the last hand before the break, Daniel Fantoli five-bet jammed into Juho Santala and Baard Dahl. Both Scandinavians were more than happy to get their chips in as Fantoli was in dire shape.

Daniel Fantoli: {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}
Juho Santala: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}
Baard Dahl: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

The board came {k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Spades}{2-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and the jacks found no help as Fantoli's stack was chopped between Santala and Dahl.

Szabo Takes Some From Lohunko

Level 4 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

Following a heads-up turn of {k-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{7-Clubs}, Sebastian Lohunko check-raised from 1,100 to 3,500 and picked up a call by Levente Szabo. The {5-Diamonds} on the river was checked by both players and Lohunko tabled the {6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for treys and fives with a missed gutshot.

Szabo had that beat with the {k-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for superior two pair and raked in the pot.

Heikela Takes a Bite Out of Karlsson's Stack

Level 4 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

With around 10,000 in the middle to the {k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{9-Diamonds} turn, Mats Karlsson made it 6,000 to go out of the big blind. Jussi Heikela was his sole remaining opponent and raised it up to 13,000.

That sent Karlsson, a former runner-up of the EPT Malta Main Event at the Portomaso Casino around the corner from this very venue, into a brief tank. He then opted to fold and Heikela raked in the pot.

Karlsson opened to 1,000 shortly after and folded when a short stack pushed. Jenny Israel also got a three-bet shove through on the same table, which she concluded with a smile on the face and "thank you".

Assorted Counts in the Field

Westby Chips Up Through Dijkkamp

Level 4 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

In a battle cutoff versus button, the turn showed {j-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{7-Clubs} and Lennart Dijkkamp bet 4,600. Tony Westby called from one seat over by tossing in a single T-5,000 chip and the {2-Spades} river completed the board.

Dijkkamp now slowed down and checked, which led to a bet worth 14,000 by Westby. That was enough to avoid a showdown as Dijkkamp got out of the way after short consideration.
