Day 1a of the 2023 Unibet DeepStack Open Marrakech Main Event at Casino de Marrakech has reached its conclusion. The first of four starting flights attracted a grand total of 140 entrants. After thirteen levels of play the dust has finally settled for the evening, with only 23 players finding a bag for Day 2 by the end of the day.

Linda Hamdi claimed the Day 1 chip lead in impressive fashion, bagging 1,163,000 chips, worth over 250 big blinds for the start of Day 2. Hamdi was the only player to bag over 1,000,000 chips and she has more than twice as much as any other player aside from her closest competitor, Jeremie Canetti (924,000). Hamdi was firmly in the driver’s seat for most of the day and was consistently at or near the top of the counts, using an aggressive style to win many pots uncontested.

Others to advance to Day 2 include Amer Benmoumen (373,000), Ugo Taurines (353,000) and Anas Tadini (274,000). Tadini will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with on Day 2, having won several major events in Marrakech over the years and currently sitting at number four on Morocco’s all-time money list.

Notable players who fell short of making Day 2 today include Said El-Yousfi, Aurelie Reard, Unibet Team Pro Alexandre Reard and Sonny Franco, all of whom busted towards the later stages of the evening.

Play resumes at 1 p.m. local time on October 5th, 2023, for Day 1b of the main event. As always, stay tuned to PokerNews for a brand new day of action tomorrow at the 2023 Unibet DeepStack Open Marrakech.

Aurelie Reard was recently eliminated from the tournament.

As recounted by a player at her former table, Reard moved all in with a short-stack holding jack-nine suited and was called by Amer Benmoumen, who had ace-king. Reard failed to improve and was sent to the rail late in Day 1.
