Day 1a Completed
Day 1a of the 2023 Unibet DeepStack Open Marrakech Main Event at Casino de Marrakech has reached its conclusion. The first of four starting flights attracted a grand total of 140 entrants. After thirteen levels of play the dust has finally settled for the evening, with only 23 players finding a bag for Day 2 by the end of the day.
Linda Hamdi claimed the Day 1 chip lead in impressive fashion, bagging 1,163,000 chips, worth over 250 big blinds for the start of Day 2. Hamdi was the only player to bag over 1,000,000 chips and she has more than twice as much as any other player aside from her closest competitor, Jeremie Canetti (924,000). Hamdi was firmly in the driver’s seat for most of the day and was consistently at or near the top of the counts, using an aggressive style to win many pots uncontested.

9 | Belmehdi | 273,000 | 55 |
10 | Adnane Atlagh | 264,000 | 53 |
Others to advance to Day 2 include Amer Benmoumen (373,000), Ugo Taurines (353,000) and Anas Tadini (274,000). Tadini will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with on Day 2, having won several major events in Marrakech over the years and currently sitting at number four on Morocco’s all-time money list.
Notable players who fell short of making Day 2 today include Said El-Yousfi, Aurelie Reard, Unibet Team Pro Alexandre Reard and Sonny Franco, all of whom busted towards the later stages of the evening.
Play resumes at 1 p.m. local time on October 5th, 2023, for Day 1b of the main event. As always, stay tuned to PokerNews for a brand new day of action tomorrow at the 2023 Unibet DeepStack Open Marrakech.

"Adri" opened to 10,000 from under the gun and Fouad Zouiten three-bet to 40,000 from early position. Samy Hamou moved all in for 109,000 from the button and "Adri" re-shoved for 227,000, covering both opponents. Zouiten looked frustrated with the situation but ultimately found a fold leaving Hamou all in and at risk against "Adri".
Samy Hamou: J♥J♠
"Adri": A♣K♣
It was a classic tournament flip that Hamou caught the better of on the 7♣6♠2♦ flop. The 2♣ turn gave "Adri" many more outs in the form of a flush-draw, and one of those outs came on the 4♣ river. "Adri" had rivered an ace-high flush to eliminate Hamou and collect the last of his chips.
Meanwhile at the same table, Linda Hamdi continues to extend her lead over the rest of the field and is rapidly approaching one million chips.

Action folded around to Alexandre Reard in the small blind, who moved all in for approximately 25,000. "Belmehdi" made the call with a covering stack from the big blind.
Alexandre Reard: 9♦8♦
"Belmehdi": A♦6♣
The board ran out Q♦J♣4♣4♦A♣. Reard's suited connecter failed to connect with anything and he was eliminated near the end of the day while "Belmehdi" picked up a decent pot.
