Kanit, Baumann and Delmas Make It Nine Winamax Team Pros Through to Day 2

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Mustapha Kanit
Mustapha Kanit

Mustapha Kanit has spent most of the latter stages of today under the lights of the live-streamed feature table here in the Winamax Poker Open Dublin Main Event, but the Italian Winamax Team Pro still managed to bag up a healthy 558,000 after an elimination boosted his stack as the day drew to a close.

Fellow Winamax Team Pros Gaelle Baumann (63,000) and Adrien Delmas (390,500) will join Kanit and the six other Team Pros already advanced in Day 2 as they look to put in a good showing at their "home event."

The 2018 Winamax Poker Open is officially the largest ever, eclipsing the 2013 event with a new record of 1,191 entries.

"It was a good day!" said Kanit after bagging up in the largest 6-Max event ever held in Europe. "I'll explain for you. From the big blind I like to play because you've already put one big blind in. From the button I like to play because it's the button. Under the gun is the new best position. I always love it because you keep a stronger range.

"Cutoff is the cutoff, and small blind you want to take some squeeze some times. So that's just the way it is! Five-handed at the table is great; I love it."

"I love this format. I want one of these tables at home! As soon as I move house I will get this table; f*ck nine-handed(!)"

Kanit has good memories here in Dublin and is loving the 6-Max format.

"Dublin is very good for me. Every time I come I win, I love it; some beers. I'm going to win this one! Adrian won [in Marrakech], Mustapha next...Davidi [Kitai] no. Davidi doesn't have the attitude for this tournament! The young guys have! Write a big article - Davidi no attitude! He's a father; too tired!"

Leading the way is Eric Gahon who is the only player over 700,000 after scooping a last-minute 200,000 chip pot when his pocket tens bested the nines of an opponent with just two hands left in the day.

Other big stacks include Yves Siess (610,500) and Elisabeth Loiseau (605,500). Defending champion Otto Richard also managed to find a bag with 114,000 chips in it as he aims to go back-to-back.

Notables left in include Mark Buckley (215,000), Sander van Wesemael (88,000) and former professional footballer [Removed:30] (497,500).

The remaining 161 players will join those already advanced from Day 1a and 1b on Saturday at midday. Stay tuned to PokerNews for all the live updates as we get closer to bursting the money bubble - payouts yet to be announced - and then crowning the latest Winamax champion.

Team Pro Kanit Eliminates a Player; Moves Among Chip Leaders

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Mustapha Kanit
Mustapha Kanit

On the feature table Winamax Team Pro Mustapha Kanit three-bet enough to put his opponent all in. Her opponent called.

Mustapha Kanit: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}
All-in Player: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

The player's all in was for 67,500 and the flop came {9-Spades}{10-Hearts}{j-Hearts} giving Kanit a set and his opponent a gutshot straight draw.

The turn {6-Diamonds} changed nothing and the river was the {8-Spades}.

Kanit now moves up over 550,000 in chips and is a contender for chip leader at this moment in time.

2018 Winamax Poker Open Dublin is Biggest Ever

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

After coming agonisingly close to breaking the 2013 record twelve months ago, it's now official! The 2018 Winamax Poker Open Dublin Main Event is the biggest ever, with over 1,100 entries. This surpasses not only the 1,069 from 2017 but the record of 1,086 from 2013.

It also looks like the tournament could be one of the biggest 6-Max tournaments ever held, although Winamax are waiting to confirm that themselves.

For the first time ever there were three starting days, with the final one proving to be the most popular; having in itself more entries than the entire tournament in 2010 or 2011.

Here are the details of each flight's entries over the last five years.

Beer Pong Champion Baumann Still in the Field

Level 14 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Gaelle Baumann

Yesterday saw the "second Main Event" take place with the Winamax Beer Pong Open which saw 97 pairs whittled down to just one winner.

And for the second event in a row after Pierre Calamusa's victory in Marrakech at the Winamax SISMIX, another Winamax Team Pro took down the title with Gaelle Baumann and Kevin Noblat winning the event.

"It's perhaps even better than the Main Event because it's here in Dublin!" said Baumann shortly after winning. "You know, with people drinking and having fun. It's funny because when I'm playing beer pong I'm just so focussed it's like I can't lose. Even more so than in poker. And winning with my [Kevin] is something you always want so it's nice, it's really nice."

"We had six months training(!)" said Noblat jokingly. "For me, this is my Main Event because I'm covering the proper Main Event. This is the only moment all week where I can win."

Updated Chip Counts & Eliminations

Level 13 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Romain Lewis
Romain Lewis

Some Team Pros go above and beyond to give a good impression to players. Romain Lewis is one of those pros as the Winamax Team Pro got his last chips in with {a-Hearts}{3-Spades} against the {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} of his opponent. The board was {3-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and Lewis's pair lost out to the set of his opponent.

Lewis handed over a commemorative button and voucher to his opponent who asked Lewis for a selfie and to sign his shirt. Just like all good Team Pros should, Lewis stuck around and signed the man's shirt before vacating the tournament area.

Team Pro Delmas Eliminates a Player

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Adrien Delmas
Adrien Delmas

Joining the ranks of Winamax Team Pro in January 2018, Adrien Delmas is just 22 and it seems that his fellow Team Pros have finally got around to welcoming him to the team.

Sporting a helmet, and carrying a sword and shield, Delmas looks every bit the dashing knight.

"It's hazing," said Delmas. "For joining the Team Pro! They're just a bit late."

Whatever the reason it seems to be doing the trick, with Delmas sitting on just over 150,000 after eliminating a player all-in pre-flop when his {6-}{6-} held against his opponent's {4-}{4-}

Winamax Team Pro Kanit Relishes Being Part of "Special Group"

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Mustapha Kanit
Mustapha Kanit

After arriving in the Irish capital, Mustapha Kanit is biding his time and keeping his powder dry before jumping into the fray, and we caught up with him to ask him how it's been playing in Winamax events recently.

"I've played in the SISMIX [in Marrakech], I've played in Paris. I like it; it's always fun and I always bring a few friends."

Kanit is now in Dublin to play the Winamax Poker Open, and it is his first visit to the WPO. However, it's not his first visit to Dublin to play poker. In February 2016 he won a €25,000 High Roller here for €501,640 and says he has good memories.

"It was the biggest tournament ever held in Dublin," said Kanit. "But Winamax is the first time. It looks nice and there are so many people here."

Kanit has been a Winamax pro for some time now and he says that he really likes being part of the team.

"It's been great. They've loved me since the beginning and I love them. It's been a good year. I'm up live; I don't play as much as I used to, but I still play a fair amount.

"Online too I can't really complain. It's been a good year."

Does the Italian think that being a sponsored pro has changed his approach to poker recently?

"I wouldn't say that it has changed my approach because that's something I've developed over twelve years of playing. So it's tough to change that in one year.

"But at the same time, it adds something for sure. Just being part of such a special group, having the option to share things with players like Adrian [Mateos] is for sure a big positive to have. I would say that it's definitely given me something, that's for sure."

Checking in on the Winamax Team Pros

Level 4 : 175/350, 350 ante
Bruno Lopes
Bruno Lopes

Right now there is just one Winamax Team Pro in the field, and that is Bruno Lopes.

There have been several Team Pros who have already made Day 2. Yesterday Davidi Kitai, Pierre Calamusa, Guillaume Diaz and Leo Margets advanced, while Joao Vieira and Sylvain Loosli did it at the first time of asking.

That leaves just Lopes, as well as Beer Pong Open winner Gaelle Baumann, Ivan Deyra, Adrien Delmas, Romain Lewis and Mustapha Kanit left to try and get through to Day 2.

Dupre Hopes For Easier Day

Level 2 : 125/250, 250 ante
Marvin Dupre
Marvin Dupre

Marvin Dupre is a French singer who competed on the television programe 'The Voice' in 2017. He was in the field yesterday, but is now back in action on Day 1c.

"I'm pretty good," he said. "It's my first time here and I'm really happy to be here."

Dupre was in action earlier this year at the Winamax SISMIX in Marrakech, but the atmosphere here in Dublin is decidedly different.

"The vibe is very good. It's lots of fun, but yesterday was pretty hard. I was on a table with Guillaume Diaz and Romain Lewis. It was complicated. But it's ok!"

In this hand a player opened to 575 and Dupre three-bet to 1,575. His opponent called. The flop came {3-Spades}{a-Spades}{10-Clubs} and the initial raiser check-folded to a continuation bet of 1,025 and open-folded {8-}{8-}.
