Hoffman Gets One Through

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

A player in middle position opened to 2,500 and Wilbern Hoffman went all in over the top of him from the cutoff. Action folded back to the opener and he asked for a count, which totaled 17,900.

He went into the tank for over 30 seconds and eventually let his hand go, giving up contention of the pot as it was shipped Hoffman's way.

Onimole Bricks a Huge Draw Against Sample

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Babatunde Onimole
Babatunde Onimole

Babatunde Onimole got his last 12,000 in on a {9-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop from middle position, and Darryl Sample had him at risk with a call from the button.

Babatunde Onimole: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Darryl Sample: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Sample needed to fade the straight and flush draw of Onimole to knockout the early Day 1b chip leader, and the {a-Diamonds} turn and {3-Spades} river were safe for Sample's ace-queen to secure the bustout.

Crow Toasted by Rodriguez

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

A player limped in from early position and Freddie Rodriguez went all in for around 12,000 from the cutoff. Mike Crow was in the small blind and called off his last 5,600 before the early-position limper folded.

Mike Crow: {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Freddie Rodriguez: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Crow was in need of serious help as he found himself up against a better ace than that of his own. The flop came {5-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}, leaving him in need of running clubs, wheel outs, or aces. The turn {5-Clubs} left him drawing dead and the river {3-Diamonds} completed the runout, resulting in his elimination at the hand of Rodriguez.

Bell Jams on Richards

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

Ronald Bell and John Richards each invested 3,500 to see an {a-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop together, and Bell checked from the cutoff. Richards bet 6,000 on the button, and Bell made the call.

The {8-Diamonds} fell on the turn, and Bell jammed for his last 12,700.

"Really?" Richards asked, looking over at Bell quizzically. He gave it a few moments thought, then folded.

Kim Holds for the Knockout

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

A player in early position shoved all in for his last 10,300 and Alan Kim called from middle position. All remaining players folded and it was time to turn up the hands for the runout.

Alan Kim: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
All-In Player: {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

The flop {3-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} left Kim finding himself needing to fade diamonds now in addition to the three tens left in the deck. He would do just that as the turn {6-Hearts} and river {2-Spades} fell and he secured the knockout.

For the past week, WinStar has been playing host to a series of side event as a part of the 2019 Labor Day River Series. While PokerNews is only offering live updates from the Main Event, we still wanted to give some love to the lucky WinStar winners.

One such event was Event #4: $200 NLH Turbo Bounty, a tournament that drew 144 runners.

Among those to cash but fall short of making the final table were Ramon Rey (10th - $840), Khoeng Souvoravong (11th - $840), Juan Mendoza (12th - $254), Marcus Hood (13th - $216), Jay Ferguson (14th - $216), and David Peterson (15th - $216).

The top 11 players worked a deal that saw 10 of them lock up $840 in prize money, while the big chip leader Kevin Rund took the title and secured a $1,498 payday.

Palacios Can't Fade a Flush

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

Marco Palacios raised to 2,000 from under the gun, and the small blind three-bet to 8,000. Palacios made the call.

The small blind led out for 13,000 on the {7-Clubs}{10-Spades}{q-Clubs} flop, and Palacios jammed for 31,000. The small blind, who barely had Palacios covered, called.

Marco Palacios: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}

Palacios had flopped top set to put his opponent's aces on the ropes. The {k-Clubs} turn gave the small blind both flush and straight draws, and the {5-Clubs} river completed the flush for the small blind, although he didn't immediately see it and was still standing up to leave when it was alerted to him that he indeed had made the best hand.

Palacios told us before exiting that he would return for tomorrow's Day 1c flight to give it another shot.

Mader Dusted

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

Phil Mader was recently eliminated from the tournament. In talking to another player at the table, he had shoved all in preflop with {a-}{4-}-off suit for the last of his chips and was called by {k-}{q-}.

The board ran out {q-}{q-}{5-}{2-}{10-} and he was sent to the rail early in Level 7.

Martensen's Big Slick Does the Trick

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

A player jammed for 9,800 from early position, and Blake Martensen three-bet shoved for 18,000 from middle position. The big blind tanked for a few minutes, looking exasperated, before letting his hand go.

Opponent: {3-Spades}{3-Clubs}
Blake Martensen: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

Martensen added a gutshot on the {q-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{j-Spades} flop, but bricked the {8-Clubs} turn. The {a-Hearts} river paired up Martensen, however, and was good enough to eliminate his opponent.
