Day 1 Completed
Early Wednesday afternoon the largest buy-in of the 2017 World Cup of Cards kicked off as Event #19: $5K 8-Max took center stage. There were 30 hopefuls put up the $5,300 price tag to take a seat in the event. Thomas Cemm leads the pack of 18 survivors after 10 levels on Day 1.
Registration remained open all day and players took advantage of the unlimited re-entry event. When the clock was paused at the end of the night a total of 39 entries were received, nine of those being a second bullet.
The event sits just one entry away from meeting the $400,000 guarantee. Registration will remain open until the start of Day 2 so anyone failing to qualify this evening or unable to fire today will have a chance to dive in on Thursday.
Cemm mustered a mighty stack of 436,500 to claim the top spot. Leading for most of the day, Cemm won big pots off Dustin Melanson and Danny Boyaci, busting both players with pocket kings. Then Cemm picked up aces and busted Sam Chartier holding kings.
Following behind Cemm on the leaderboard were Parker Talbot (424,000), partypoker ambassador Kristen Bicknell (294,000), Jean Christophe Ferreira (285,000), and Gary Lucci (278,000) who made the most out of a second bullet.
A few other players also needing a second bullet include Shaan Siddiqui (269,000), Thomas Lefort (261,000), Sam Chartier (239,500), David Ormsby (163,000), Pascal Lefrancois (125,000), and Francois Billard (86,500).
Dustin Melanson, Jonathan Marrie, Matthew Wilkins, Pierre Paulin, and Danny Boyaci all took part but found the exit before day's end. Each will have the option of reloading in the morning before Day 2 kicks off.
Day 2 will resume at 1 p.m. local time Thursday afternoon inside Playground Poker Club and continue until the latest WCC champion is crowned.
