$220 partypoker Grand Prix Canada
Day 2 Completed
The day began with 333 players and just 25 remain at the end of play on Day of the partypoker Grand Prix Canada. Located in Kahnawake, Quebec in Canada, the ever-popular Playground Poker Club plays host to the second-annual World Cup of Cards and this opening event guaranteed a prize pool worth $1 million CAD.
This event attracted a total of 3,746 entries between a ton of online and live qualifiers, and just 25 players are moving on to Day 3 from today's live Day 2, while two players advanced from the online Day 2.
The remaining players are all guaranteed to pocket at least $2,000, but the top payouts have not yet been released. The final prize pool information will be posted tomorrow by the time Day 3 kicks off. Results will then be found right here under the Results tab, and the prize pool information will be found under the Payouts tab.
The chip leader to end the day ws Raphael Duval, bagging a staggering 22,165,000 chips. He started the day strong and never really looked back. Behind him with the second-most chips was Anatoly Zharnitsky with 18,365,000 chips, followed by Matthew Wilkins (10,650,000) to round out the top three stacks.
Other familiar players to continue on to Day 3 tomorrow include Ryan Morrell (9,085,000), Dustin Melanson (6,430,000), and B]Said Michailidis[/B] (6,015,000).
The partypoker Grand Prix Canada is now running for the third time, and the second-ever winner from earlier this year in May was local favorite Cassidy Battikha. He had a great shot at defending his title but came short today, finishing with a little more than 60 players remaining in the field for $1,100. He has most definitely proven he has what it takes to compete, so look for him to make another deep run as the series progresses.
Some of the notable players that made it in the money today but did not advance included Mike Leah, Scott Montgomery, Isabelle Tremblay, Steve Worr, Andy Watt, Wing Seto, Kathy Sawers, Oliver Gergely, Karine Broeckaert, Samuel PIcard, Bill Blais, Leo Hackenbroch, Jessie Wheatley, and Patrick St-Onge.
Day 3 kicks off at 1:00 p.m. local time tomorow, Monday, August 21st, and will play down to a winner.
PokerNews is proud to be providing coverage for this series, so keep following along as we write about the journey to a winner!

Action folded around to Dustin Melanson in the cutoff and he raised it up to 750,000. Alexandre Roberge was on the button and called for his remaining 680,000. Debra Ann Holman was in the small blind and agonized over her decision but eventually folded. "I had fives" declared Holman, after everyone else folded.
Roberge was at risk with and was way behind Melanson's .
The flop came and Melanson took away some of Roberge's outs as he held the only heart. The turn was the and the river was the , sending Roberge to the rail.

The tournament staff has announced that the remaining players will play four more hands before the day is over.
A simple 15-big blind under-the-gun jam with pocket queens seemed like a perfect spot for Eric Leblond.
The situation got even better when Mark Young announced raise from the small blind, completely unaware of Leblond's action.
Young did have Leblond covered but was way behind.
Leblond:
Young:
Young was just attempting to steal the big blind and ante but found himself in a very uncomfortable position. Until the flop came that is.
The dealer fanned out a board, giving Young quad nines and leaving a stunned Leblond without a chip, eliminated just before the clock on Day 2 was paused.

Mark Young | 6,400,000 | 2,620,000 |

Action folded around to Franco A on the button and he raised to 525,000. Christian Conrad was in the big blind and moved all-in for 1,395,000.
Franco asked for a count and was immediately on his feet. It was 870,000 more for him to call, and he had a decision to make with 5,500,000 chips behind. He put his cigar back into his mouth and had a think. Eventually, he called.
"Good call" said Conrad as he tabled . "You're not gonna like this" said Franco as he tabled . Both players held nine-high, with Franco holding the best of it.
The flop came and Conrad had some hope for a chop, should he not hit his six. The turn was the and paired Franco's eight, but Conrad picked up some outs to make a straight to potentially chop the pot. The river was the and Conrad was eliminated.

Psallidas explained he got his remaining stack in the middle with 7x5x and spiked a seven, followed by a few more shoves. His latest double came after he moved in with ace-six and was called by king-jack. His hand held up and he now has a stack that allows him to play around for just a little bit longer.
