The Dealer Chooses Fun

Level 1

As is so often the case in the early levels of a tournament, many of the pots lack significance. This is especially true when there are a few limit games involved, restricting the players' bets and keeping pots on the small side. While most of the time this lends itself to silence around the tournament room, the exact opposite is true here in the AU$1,650 8-Game Dealer's Choice.

For starters, all of the players are chatting it up a bunch in a cheerful manner. For some, this is their way of feeling out their opponents to see who understands what games the best, so they can make their selection accordingly when it comes around.

"Do you know all the rules to all of these games?" one player was heard asking.

"What game are you picking first, Mike?" another player asked to Mike Leah.

For others, chatting about the nuances of all of the different games is paramount, with several joking with one another about skill levels.

"Michael Guzzardi is terrible at eight game!" blurted out Oliver Gill.

"Oh come on, why would you pick stud hi-lo, you know you're a fish at it?" another player said to Jan Suchanek.

This dealer's choice format is a new one at the World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific, but there's clearly no lack of fun.

Trip Jacks for Gorr

Level 1

No-Limit Hold'em

Jeff Lisandro, David Gorr, a third player, and Peter Aristidou all checked the {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop to see the {5-Spades} land on the turn. After Lisandro checked, Gorr bet 225. The next player folded, and then Aristidou called. The {K-Clubs} completed the bord on the river, and Gorr checked. Aristidou checked back.

Gorr tabled the {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} for trip jacks, and Aristidou mucked his hand.

It's Time for the 8-Game Dealer's Choice

And on the seventh day of the 2014 World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific, there was the sixth event of the series that consisted of eight games.

Today is Day 1 of the AU$1,650 8-Game Dealer's Choice from the festival, and it should be a really fun tournament for all. From a coverage standpoint, we're looking forward to this eight-game variant that allows the "dealer" at each table to pick the game. From a player standpoint, it should be a super interesting and fun variation to standard tournament poker, and who doesn't love the chance to win a WSOP gold bracelet?

Kicking off at 2:10 p.m. local time, this event will allow players the option of selecting from no-limit hold'em, seven-card stud, Omaha hi-lo, razz, pot-limit Omaha, limit hold'em, seven-card stud hi-lo, or 2-7 triple draw.

Lots of notable players should be in the mix again for this one, and we're expecting the cream to rise to the top in terms of skill. The dealer's choice event in Las Vegas this past summer was very well received from players and a lot of top names produced great results. Much of the same should happen here Down Under.
