Let's Have Ourselves a Dinner Break

Recent Bracelet Winner Eliminated by November Niner

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante
Sam Higgs
Sam Higgs

Earlier today, Melbourne local and tattoo shop owner Sam Higgs took down Event #5: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha for AU$127,843 and a gold bracelet. After the win, Higgs joined his friends and family for a celebratory dinner, and then he left them to jump into this event. Higgs was seeking back-to-back bracelets, but his attempt was cut short by November Niner Bruno Politano.

Higgs was nursing a short stack and got it all in on a {5-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{10-Hearts} flop only to find himself in dire straits against his Brazilian foe.

Higgs: {q-Diamonds}{2-Spades}
Politano: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}

Higgs had flopped top pair, but it was no good as Politano was sitting on the granddaddy of all hands. Neither the {J-Diamonds} turn nor {6-Diamonds} river helped Higgs, and he was sent to the rail. Needless to say, even after being eliminated it's been a heck of a day for Higgs.

Bad Turn for Hachem

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

Tony Hachem saw the turn of a {J-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {K-Spades} {9-Spades} board and put Scott Reid all in. The latter called for his last 7,875 and had flopped the nuts with {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs}. Hachem was drawing slim with {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} and needed a king or nine to avoid the setback. The {8-Hearts} on the river didn't help and Reid scored the double up.

Sylvia Chips Up

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

Following a raise to 700 and a call, Jesse Sylvia three-bet the cutoff to 2,300 with both opponents calling as the flop fell {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades}.

Both opponents checked to Sylvia who opted to fire a continuation-bet of 2,725 which was met by two swift folds.

Things Are Getting Juicy

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

Juicy Li opened for 600 under the gun and current WSOP Player of the Year leader Brandon Shack-Harris defended from the big blind. Shack-Harris then check-called a bet of 700 on the {4-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{10-Clubs} flop before checking the {K-Spades} turn. Li kept the pressure on with a bet of 1,500, and this time it did the trick as Shack-Harris released his hand.

Rubie Lays Down a Bad Beat He'll Remember Forever

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante
Brendon Rubie
Brendon Rubie

Brendon Rubie pulled us aside to inform us of a hand he'd just won.

As he told it, he looked down at {10-}{10-} under the gun and opened with a raise. The player to his left, who he said had been folding nonstop for nearly two hours, then three-bet all in for 1,100. Action folded back to Rubie, and it wasn't much more for him to call. He expected his opponent to have {a-}{a-}, which he did, but Rubie made the call nonetheless.

The {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop gave Rubie a set, but his opponent had flopped an even bigger one. The only way Rubie could win was with the case ten, and wouldn't you know it, the {10-Diamonds} peeled off on the turn. The other player failed to catch the case ace on the river, and Rubie was the beneficiary of the bad beat.
