In a heads-up pot between the blinds, Philip Sternheimer checked on the board of 6♠4♥K♣A♥ and Daniel Negreanu bet. Sternheimer called.
Sternheimer checked again on the 4♦ river and Negreanu moved all in. Sternheimer went in the tank before he folded to hold on to his stack of around 150,000.
"I think he was bluuuufffffing!" Jason Mercier said behind the camera as he noticed PokerNews filming the action.
Action was picked up on fourth street in a hand between Chris Klodnicki, Konstantin Maslak, and Benny Glaser.
Chris Klodnicki: XxXx / Q♥7♦4♣ - folded on fifth street
Konstantin Maslak: XxXx / 6♥8♣9♠5♥ / Xx - folded on seventh street
Benny Glaser: XxXx / 8♦9♣J♥K♥ / Xx
The action checked to Glaser on fourth and he bet, earning calls from both opponents.
Glaser bet again on fifth and only Maslak called.
Sixth street checked through and Glaser opted to lead on seventh. Maslak thought it over for a while before he let it go, prompting a sigh of relief from Glaser as he continues to build momentum.
It was Daniel Negreanu's turn to choose a game and he picked Pot-Limit Omaha. "Time to sh*t or get off the pot," Negreanu said.
In a four-way limped pot, Negreanu led out for 20,000 from the small blind on the flop of Q♠2♥6♠ as Daniel Zack, Philip Sternheimer and John Racener all folded.
"Queens up and a flush draw!" Negreanu said as he showed Qx9♠5x2♠ and took the pot.
Benny Glaser opened the button to 28,000 and Chris Klodnicki called in the big blind.
Klodnicki took two while Glaser took one. Klodnicki checked to Glaser who cut out a bet of 40,000. Klodnicki contemplated his decision for around a minute before he tossed in the call.
Glaser tabled 10x9x8x4x3x which was good to drag the pot as he padded his stack.
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Paradise series is underway, and poker players attending should be aware of a rule change that will impact the use of electronic devices at the table.
Jonathan Tamayo won the WSOP Main Event for $10 million this past summer in Las Vegas. Controversy surrounded the victory after poker fans noticed his rail, which included poker pros Joe McKeehen and Dominik Nitsche, had a laptop open with apparent real-time assistance (RTA) software visible.
Tamayo would occasionally converse with his rail during the final table, and that led some to question if he had an unfair advantage. But no one has presented any evidence to prove he broke any rules or won the tournament because of an edge gained from his rail. Still, the WSOP did not have a rule in place to prevent potential controversies such as this from arising. They do now, however.
There are a few other additional new rules for the series, including banning electronic devices at the table altogether when a tournament is down to three tables. Players are also not permitted to place their cell phones or any electronic devices on the table or table rail during play.
As recounted by the table, Aaron Kupin opened preflop and Phil Hellmuth called. Kupin continued on the flop of 8♥9♥3♦ and called a check-raise from Hellmuth.
Hellmuth bet on the 2♣ turn and Kupin raised to put the "Poker Brat" all in. Hellmuth called.
Phil Hellmuth: A♥AxJ♥10x
Aaron Kupin: A♦K♠2♥2♠
Hellmuth had a combo draw but didn't improve as the 9♠ bricked off on the river to mark his elimination.
He was eliminated right before dinner break, but he had already eaten a sandwich earlier in the event as cameras crowded around to see him take a bite.
Jason Mercier: 7♥4♠3♦ / 5♥5♣6♣9♣
Daniel Zack: 7♠6♠A♥ / 7♦4♣5♦3♠
Mercier led on fourth and fifth and Zack called both times.
On sixth, Mercier check-called a bet from Zack.
On seventh, Mercier check-raised after Zack bet and he put in the call. Both players held the seven-high straight for the high but Zack had the better low with his six-five to get three-quarters of the pot in a rare stud quartered pot.
