Five Levels Today

We are going to play five 90 minute levels today in Day 1 Flight 1. Obviously the same schedule tomorrow for Day 1 Flight 2. Fifteen minute breaks between rounds, so we should be done this evening around 20:30 PDT.

With 50,000 starting chips the play is moving slowly or perhaps better said cautiously. There over 300+ players in the field today with a similiar number anticipated for tomorrow. This is a seven day tournament.

Hoyt Corkins 1, Jamie Gold 0

The Cowboy took on the World Champion and prevailed. On a board of {A-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, Hoyt Corkins was the first player to act. The always talkative Jamie Gold told Corkins that no matter what was bet, that he was going to call. Corkins reached into his stack and tossed out a couple of chips. The dealer went to figure out the amount and Gold said, "I have to call." He did and tabled {A-Spades}{6-Hearts} while Corkins showed {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}. Corkin's Big Slick bested Gold's Ace-rag.

First Elimination: Sbrugby

Brian "sbrugby" Townsend is the first player to bust out on Day 1a. Brad Berman flopped a set with {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} on a board of {A-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades}. All the money went in on the turn when the {9-Clubs} fell. Townsend had {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and the river did not help him. Townsend is the first player eliminated. If he's not playing at that high stakes mixed game in Bobby's Room, expect to find him playing online very shortly.

Jamie Gold's Huge Bluff vs. Tuan Le

On a board of {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and a large pot at stake Tuan Le checks to Jamie Gold who pushes all in. Tuan Le deliberates for a lenghty amount of time while Jamie Gold stays very active and verbal; getting up from his chair, walking away from the table, coming back to his chair and standing behind it (looking like he's preparing to leave the tournament), asking nearby press if he'll be the first one to bust out of the tournament and then announcing to Tuan, "I've got a huge hand. I don't know if it's taking you this long maybe you have a huge hand, too. If you do have me beat it'll be an amazing call." Finally Tuan folds his hand and Jamie proudly shows a complete bluff with {6-Clubs}{3-Spades}. After scooping up the large pot Jamie tells the table, "He was about a minute away from sending me home. It wasn't looking good."
