Enjoubault Leads after Day 1a

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Jacques Enjoubault - Chip leader
Jacques Enjoubault - Chip leader

Day 1a is in the books, and after seven levels of play, your chip leader is Jacques Enjoubault (225,200 chips).

A total of 96 runners descended upon the Aviation Club de France to compete in Day 1a of the WPT Season XI Grand Prix de Paris. Only 51 survived however, and among the casualties were Tony G, Aubin Cazals, Mickael Layani, Will Failla, Samuel Chartier, Vanessa Selbst, David Benyamine, Guillaume Darcourt, and Roberto Romanello.

Darcourt and Romanello both exited early, Darcourt at the hands of Casey Kastle. Kastle was dominated on a queen-high flop, holding {a-}{k-} against Darcourt's {k-}{q-}, but an ace turned giving Kastle a better pair. The river bricked, and Darcourt was eliminated.

WPT Champion's Club member Will Failla busted in perhaps the sickest way today however. Failla flopped a set of fours against Jason Mercier on a seven-high board. The turn was another seven, the river was a brick, and all the money went in the middle. Failla thought his full house was good, but Mercier tabled two sevens, and raked in the pod with quads. Mercier, who would become the latest member of the Triple Crown Club with a win here in Paris, ended the day with 20,425 chips.

Antony Lellouche (178,000) and Basil Yaiche (142,475) both finished the day with six figures, but Enjoubault is well ahead of the pack with nearly four times the average stack. Enjoubault won a massive hand in Level 7 when he flopped an open-ended flush draw against Mickael Layani. Layani held top two pair, but a {6-Diamonds} turned, giving Enjoubault a ten-high straght. The river bricked, and Enjoubault rocketed above 200,000 chips.

Matt Waxman, the defending champion, is also among the survivors. He finished the evening with 37,900, and Kara Scott (67,200), Tristan Wade (64,000), Marvin Rettenmaier (37,900), Marko Neumann (69,000), Andrew Seidman (69,875), and Justin Bonomo (69,725) will be joining him on Day 2.

Day 1b will begin tomorrow at 3 p.m. local time, while Day 2 will commence on 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Thanks for following along, and good night from Paris!

Enjoubault KOs Layani, Crosses 200K Threshold

Tony G, Mickael Layani, and Jacques Enjoubault were three-handed with the board reading {q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. Tony G led out for 5,000, Layani moved all in for 29,100, and Enjoubault quickly called. Tony G released, and the hands were opened.

Layani{q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Enjoubault{9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

Layani had top two pair, but Enzoubaunet held an open-ended straight flush draw. The turn wasn't a heart, but it was the {6-Diamonds}, giving Enzoubaunet a ten-high straight. The {a-Spades} bricked on the river, and Layani was eliminated.

Enzoubaunet commands the largest stack in the room - he now has over 210,000 chips.

Call?

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Mickael Layani and Tony G were heads up with the board reading {2-Spades}{3-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}. Layani led out for 7,500, and Tony G moved all in.

"Four?" Layani asked Tony G.

"Call?" Tony G responded, as he started to open his hand. "He said call."

Tony G did not reveal the contents of his hand however, because the dealer stopped him and explained that Layani said "four."

"Come on!" Tony G exclaimed. "He said call! Come on, now. It's only a little more!"

The floor was called over and ruled that it was not a call, and Layani folded his hand.

"He may not speak English well," the floor explained.

"He's young," Tony G responded. "If he doesn't speak English, I'll jump off of the Eiffel Tower."
