Day 1c Completed

Omar Lakhdari Tops Day 1c For Overall Lead At PMU.fr WPT National Paris

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Big Field At Day 1c PMU.fr WPT National Paris
Big Field At Day 1c PMU.fr WPT National Paris

Omar Lakhdari finished Day 1c as the chip leader finishing with a monster 212,000. Not far behind him is Gregory Fournier with 181,100 which places him in second place overall so far. Third place today went to Bruno Soutavong who bagged 175,700.

Day 1c was the largest field of the three starting days so far, greatly helped by the 39 re-entries. In the end a total of 200 players tried to spin their 30,000 stack up with 113 players eventually making it through to Day 2.

Early action saw French PMU player Pascal Genevrier eliminated at the start of level three when his {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} was out flopped by the {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} of Pierre Fehner. All the chips went in the middle on the turn with the eventual board reading {8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{k-Clubs}{8-Spades}{10-Hearts}.

It was a close contest for the chip lead throughout the day in contrast to the first two days where the eventual chip leaders grabbed an early lead and never looked like relinquishing it. Here the lead swapped several times before Lakhdari emerged from the pack to assert his dominance near the end.

Soutavong held the lead for some time in the later levels, active in a lot of pots and not afraid to take risks when required. His risk taking paid off in one hand where he called a 23,000 shove with {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} and was looking to beat the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} of the all in player. Soutavong managed to river a flush on the final board of {j-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{a-Clubs}.

Sebastien Le Baron was one player who quickly climbed to over 80,000 in the early levels but gradually slipped back and in one spot was bluffed off the best hand holding {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs} on the turn of a board reading {k-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{q-Spades}. Mario Vanackeren check-raise shoved with {q-Hearts}{j-} and forced him to lay it down.

Veteran player Philippe Barouk made an appearance today but struggled to get anything of consequence going. Indeed he was all in on level five against two players but managed to spike a set with his {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} to survive. With just half an hour remaining of the day though he would again get all his chips in the middle with {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} but got looked up by {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}. Despite hitting a set on the flop again there would be no saving him on a final board reading {j-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}.

Day 1d follows right behind this flight starting at 8 p.m. and will be the last chance before the tournament moves on to two Day 2s tomorrow. It will a tough task for any player to top the chips amassed by Lakhdari.

Barouk Busts

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Philippe Barouk’s day is over. He moved all in for 20,000 holding {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} and was eventually called by a player holding {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}.

Barouk spiked a set several levels ago with eights to survive and hit again but it would not be enough to save him this time as the final board read {j-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}.

Bruno Busts One

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Bruno Soutavong opened for 1,800 under the gun and picked up one caller before another player shoved for 23,400. Action folded back round to Soutavong who thought for several minutes while giving the all-in player a long hard look. Eventually he counted out the chips from his towering stack and flicked out the call. The other player got out of the way and the cards were on their backs.

Soutavong had {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} and was looking to beat the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} of the all in player.

The cards ran out {j-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{a-Clubs} and for a moment the pot looked to be pushed the wrong way but a player tapped a club on the board indicating that Soutavong had hit a flush on the river. The pot was duly shipped to Soutavong.
