Higgins Back In

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Simon Higgins has been eliminated after he put his last 14,000 into the middle preflop with {A-}{Q-} but ran into James Thomson's {Q-}{Q-}. Higgins did reenter and is now sitting at current chip leader Jonathan Gill's table.

Two Pair vs. Two Pair

With the board reading {Q-Spades}{9-Spades}{3-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}, Marvin Rettenmaier checked on the end, and Michael Mizrachi bet 9,000 into a pot of around 7,000. The German sat scratching his head for a minute or two before making the call.

"Two pair," said Mizrachi, turning over the {9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. Rettenmaier showed the {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a better two pair and picked up the pot.

Trickett Shoves

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Sam Trickett
Sam Trickett

Sam Trickett opened to 600 preflop where he was called by Daryosh Rossookh in the cutoff seat and Simon Higgins on the button. Phillip Mighall made it 2,100 from the small blind, and Trickett, Rossookh, and Higgins all called to see a {5-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{7-Clubs} flop.

Mighall checked, Trickett bet 4,000, and Rossookh folded. Higgins then made it 10,000, Mighall folded, and Trickett got a count on Higgins' remaining chips — about 14,000.

"Not today," said Trickett, and he moved all in.

Higgins paused and questioned, "What have you got? A set or a draw?"

"I'm feeling better now that you haven't called," replied Trickett.

"I might be drawing dead," said Higgins. He then folded, and Trickett showed the {Q-Spades}{10-Spades}.

Several French players have made late entries today while Sam Trickett, Simon Higgins, and Tom Middleton have also joined after busting the High Roller.

Mortensen and Jones Clash for Big Pot

Level 3 : 75/150, 25 ante
Rhys Jones
Rhys Jones

With the board reading {J-Spades}{2-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and around 4,000 already in the middle, Morten Mortensen bet 1,600. Rhys Jones thought for a minute before making a raise to 6,550, and then Mortensen asked Jones how much he had. Jones showed his stack of black 5,000 chips, and both had over 65,000.

Mortensen then three-bet to 19,500, and it was Jones' turn to tank. After a couple of minutes, he made the call, and the Dane showed the {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} for a full house. Jones mucked, and Mortensen moved up to almost 100,000.

Rettenmaier Homeless

Marvin Rettenmaier

On the turn of a {5-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} board, Marvin Rettenmaier check-called a bet of 650 from Emran Hussain to see the {10-Diamonds} come on the river. The German checked, and this time Hussain checked behind, showing the {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} for a very small full house — basically a bungalow. Rettenmaier was without a better hand and mucked his cards.

Mortensen Makes Amazing Start

Morten Mortensen

Just before the break, Morten Mortensen made a fantastic climb.

He was heads up against one opponent with the board reading {9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{J-Hearts}, and the Dane saw his 5,800-chip bet called with the {6-Spades} appearing on the river. Mortensen moved all in to cover, and his opponent called off his stack. Mortensen showed the {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}, and that was good enough to eliminate his foe.

"Yes, it's an amazing start," said Mortensen. "But it's all about how you finish."
