World Poker Tour is ready to continue with Day 1b in its third Canadian event of 2015. Partypoker.net WPT Montreal is hosted by Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake, Quebec, just across the St. Lawrence river from beautiful and historic downtown Montreal.

With three Day 1s, there is plenty of opportunity for players to turn their $3,850 buy-in into a Day 2 stack. Day 1b kicks off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, followed by Day 1c on Sunday, before those remaining return for Monday's Day 2. The tournament has a next-day reentry format, so players who are eliminated on a Day 1 can return and buy in again on another Day 1. If a player is lucky enough to survive more than one starting day, their largest stack will be carried to Day 2.

Day 1a concluded with WPT Champions Club member Brian Altman being the only player to cross the 200,000 mark, eventually bagging 221,600 chips. There were 127 entries for Day 1a with 45 of them still holding chips for Day 2.

Last year, this event saw 732 entries to create a prize pool of $2,485,140 CAD and the final table was packed full of talent. Jonathan Jaffe won the title for $464,252, but also joining him within the top 10 were the likes of Mukul Pahuja (third - $201,920), Kevin MacPhee (fourth - $149,340), Sam Chartier (fifth - $111,820), and Marc-Andre Ladouceur (ninth - $44,680). There is little doubt that this year's event will also feature a big roster of poker's best players.

Quang and Others Find a Seat

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The player under the gun limped preflop and the two players in the blinds called, including David Quang in the big blind.

The dealer slid out {4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{5-Diamonds}. The first player to act checked, Quang bet 200, and just one opponent made the call.

The turn was the {a-Hearts} and Quang continued with another bet, but his opponent quickly folded.

Along with Quang, here are some of the other players who are in the action in Level 1, including Eric Vallee, Marco Caza, and Thomas Taylor who are trying again after having an unsuccessful Day 1a.

A Straight on the Board

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

A bet of 1,500 was on the table and Vince Van Patten made the call with the board reading {j-}{k-}{q-}{a-}. The river card was {10-} and players chuckled as the straight hit the table.

Van Patten's opponent shrugged, gestured at the board, and checked. Van Patten jokingly said, "all in" as he turned over his cards. He held {k-}{j-} and his opponent had {j-}{4-}.

As the first level of the day comes to a close, there are already 154 entries to Day 1b. With late registration open until the end of the dinner break after Level 6, that number should still climb significantly.
