Picking Away at Deeb's Big Stack

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

The board was at the turn with {2-Clubs}{9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{k-Hearts} on the table and Freddy Deeb bet 6,000, getting a call from his one opponent.

The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and Deeb fired again, this time for 9,000. His opponent took little time pushing all in for 30,300. Deeb thought for a moment before shaking his head and throwing his cards in the muck. He's still holding one of the best stacks in the room.

Another 10 levels of play have come to a close here at Playground Poker Club. The 2015 partypoker.net WPT Montreal saw Day 1b fill with 235 players today. When play concluded at about 10:40 p.m., just 96 of them still had chips to bag for Day 2.

Once the chips were counted, the best stack in the room belonged to Abdallah Aljboul with 252,300 which puts him 30,000 ahead of Day 1a's chip leader Brian Altman with 221,600.

The second-best stack was the 252,000 chips at the hands of Marco Caza, and Michael Tieu rounded out the top trio with 220,300.

Combined with Day 1a, this event has had 362 entries so far and 141 of them are headed to Day 2 at this point.

Some of the other late-day survivors include the likes of Freddy Deeb (180,000), Mike Linster (141,400), Marc-Andre Ladouceur (127,500), Mike McDonald (116,200), Jonathan Duhamel (99,400), Mike Sexton (82,900), Darren Elias (82,600), WPT Montreal defending champion Jonathan Jaffe (71,700), Samuel Chartier (60,900), Kevin MacPhee (54,300), and Jeff Gross (53,000).

There were also several notable players who bought a stack today but weren't able to make it through the 10 levels. They include Ami Alibay, Andy Frankenberger, Darryll Fish, Will Molson, Liv Boeree, Igor Kurganov, Vince Van Patten, Eric Afriat, and Sheraz Nasir.

Players will have one last chance to build a Day 2 stack tomorrow with Day 1c. Action will kick off at 11 a.m. with late registration open through to the end of the dinner break after Level 6 — about 6:15 p.m.

PokerNews will be back on the tournament floor bringing you live updates of all the action. Until then, have a great night!
