Nine High Like a ...

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Antonio Fernandez and Francisco both invested 3,300 preflop to see a flop of {K-Hearts}{J-Spades}{5-Hearts} and checked before the {J-Hearts} appeared on the turn. Fernandez bet 4,900 and Francisco called before the {3-Spades} river completed the board. After some consideration, Fernandez moved all in for effectively 17,000, as that's what Francisco had left.

The fellow Spaniard gave it some thought and folded to get shown {9-Hearts}{7-Spades}, there was no Will Kassouf speech play about the shown hand, though.

Lewis Arrives; Busts; Re-Enters

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Romain Lewis in the High Roller
Romain Lewis in the High Roller

Romain Lewis arrived with a smile on the face and sunglasses in the tournament room, however the very first hand the Frenchman played was also the last one on bullet number one. A raising war ended up with Lewis calling all in to the five-bet shove of Jesper Witved on the button.

Until then, Lewis had invested 5,000 and called the jam with pocket kings while Witved turned over aces. The classic setup of the two best starting hands in No-Limit Hold'em saw Witved come out victorious and the Dane scored the early double.

Lewis re-entered right after, though, and is back with bullet number two. All players can re-enter as many times as they wish until the start of level nine.

Reard In Charge

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

One of the tables with four big names includes Olivier Decamps, Alexandre Tarantino, Louis Linard and Alexandre Reard. The latter is a very accomplished and well-known French poker pro and just claimed a pot to boost his stack slightly, while Erwann Pecheux also added some chips recently.

Reard faced a raise to 400 by the player in under the gun and three-bet to 1,300, the initial raiser was the only caller. On a flop of {J-Spades}{8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}, a check was followed by Reard's continuation bet and that shut down all further action.

King Not the King Yet

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Andrew King is one of few international players that made the trip to sunny Marrakech, escaping from the rainy weather back home in Ireland. King has dropped some chips early on and was just spotted in a pot with one of the Spanish players that goes by the nickname of Pablo.

On the {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} turn, with 2,425 in the middle, Pablo bt 800 and King raised to 2,100 in the cutoff. The Spaniard wasted little time and clicked it back to 5,500 to force a fold.

Another countryman has started well also one table over, as Fernando G's bet of 3,300 on the river of a board {J-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Spades} was paid off. Fernando showed {J-Hearts}{J-Spades} for a set and that won the pot.

Aces versus Queens

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Picking up the action on the {10-Spades}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop, Christophe Maggio check-raised to 2,800 and his sole opponent Antonio Fernandez called to see the {8-Spades} on the turn. Maggio took the lead this time and bet 3,000, which the Spaniard called. However, all of the buzz died on the {6-Hearts} river as both players checked. Maggio flashed {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and Fernandez had that beat with {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}.

Garcia Starts Well

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Two further players were in involved in the action but eventually bowed out while Marc Naudin and Adrian Garcia invested 1,500 each to see a flop of {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Naudin checked, as did Garcia, before the Frenchman bet the {9-Clubs}n turn for 2,000.

Garcia called and did so again rather quickly when facing a bet of 5,000 on the {K-Diamonds} river. Naudin sheepishly turned over his {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and Garcia claimed the pot with {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}.

Maggio Takes Some

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

After a limp by Paul, Christophe Maggio raised to 400 from the cutoff and Aurelien Vasseur called on the button while Paul got out of the way. Maggio announced a check in the dark and the flop came {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{3-Spades}, which Vasseur checked behind.

On the {4-Hearts} turn, Maggio bet 750 and that was enough to rake in the pot.

More Notables are Pouring In

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Among those to take their seats during the first level still were Alexandre Reard and his better half Aurelie, Louis Linard, Pierre Merlin, former PMU.fr online promotion and team pro Damien L'Hommeau - who qualified for this event online, as well as Spaniard Francisco.

Alexandre Reard and Linard share the same starting table and the latter was involved in a three-bet pot agains the player in the cutoff. Linard checked behind a flop of {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{8-Spades} before the {10-Spades} on the turn was checked to him. Linard made it 1,100 to go and forced a fold. After having finished 7th in the MAD 20,000 High Roller last night, Linard is off to a good start again.
