Josh Arieh Takes a Nice One

Josh Arieh raises to 1100 in the 3 spot and the hijack (aka the cutoff+1) and big blind both call. The board comes {2-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}. The big blind checks and Josh fires 1100 again. The big blind re-raises to to 2200 and Josh calls. The turn is the {4-Spades} and both check. The river is the {Q-Clubs} and both check. The other player turns over {10-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} for third pair, but Josh has {Q-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds} for a rivered second pair and the win.

Nisan Cohen doubles through Moneymaker

A severe shortstack, Nisan Cohen (whose name sounds like a foreign car mixed with a turn of the century entertainer) got it all in preflop with 7-7. Moneymaker called with A-A. A seven on the flop put Cohen in the lead. The river had an A, but the wrong A for Moneymaker as it gave Cohen a flush. Moneymaker wasn't hurt much; he still has 16,250. (Cohen is sporting a circuit ring from his win of the $500 No Limit event last week.)

Nine Levels!

Due to the extreme population size, we will likely be playing nine levels today instead of seven, meaning we will be here until the dead of night. Good thing there's an in-casino Starbucks.

Moneymaker Doubles Up

On a flop of 5-6-7 rainbow with five players in, the player in the big blind min-bets 100. Everyone calls including Chris Moneymaker and the turn is a Q. The big blind bets 1500 into a tiny pot and Moneymaker calls. The river is the {J-Hearts}. The big blind bets 1500 and Moneymaker tanks for five minutes. He finally re-pops for 3000 and the big blind calls. Moneymaker shows 8-9 for the nut straight and the other player has Q-7 for a meager two pair. Moneymaker nearly doubles at the right time and is up to 15,500. And now we're on a break.
