This Is Sparta! Well...Not Anymore.

A raising war ensued between Phillip Sparta and Blake Purvis. Sparta raised to 4,000 before Purvis reraised to 14,000. Sparta then moved all in for 43,000 total. Purvis makes the call.

Purvis: {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}
Sparta: {K-Spades}{10-Hearts}

The board missed both players, and just as the Spartans, Phillip Sparta succumbed to the insurmountable odds of Blake Purvis's stack.

After the hand Purvis moved up to around 240,000 in chips.

Tims Climbing Towards the Top

Jeff Tims
Jeff Tims
Jeff Tims and James Henson are involved in a pot, with the board showing {7-Spades}{2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}, and almost 20,000 chips in the pot.

The turn card comes the {7-Diamonds}, and Henson adds 15 orange chips to the pot, worth 1,000 each. Tims cuts out a large stack of those oranges from his carefully organized pile, and slides 45,000 slowly into the center. Henson mulls it over for several minutes before mucking his cards, and Tims' stack has swelled to 125,000, up there among the chip leaders.

Cospolich Busts

Brian Cospolich hasn't seen a hand for hours. He moves in the early position for his remaining 12,000 chips. Chris Marsh re-raises all in two seats later.

Cospolich shows {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, but is a big dog to Marsh's {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}.

The dealer quickly runs the board out, {A-Spades}{5-Spades}{J-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and Cospolich is out. He doesn't claim to be disappointed in his play. It's more that he just never saw a hand worth playing.

Marsh moves up to 40,000.

Fratter Doubles

In the first hand after the break, Marc Fratter moves all in from under the gun for a total of 33,800. Lou Esposito thinks for a while, or maybe he was just asleep from the massage he is currently getting. Either way, he makes the call after a minute.

Jon Nathan then tanks for a moment and asks Esposito how much he has left jokingly before folding. The rest of the players fold as well and it's Fratter's {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts} in a coinflip with Esposito's {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}.

The flop is an improvement for Fratter as it comes {Q-Spades}{J-Spades}{3-Clubs}. The turn is the {K-Diamonds} and the river is the {7-Hearts}.

Fratter has successfully doubled up to 70,000. Esposito has dropped to 74,000.

Pace of Play

This afternoon's action has been progressing at a blistering pace, as we saw 32 players eliminated in the first two hours of play. With 37 players remaining at five tables, the remaining contenders seem to be settling into their seats and the action has slowed noticeably. In fact, it has been close to 20 minutes since we had a player eliminated. When the next player does bust, we will be down to four tables.
