Michael Cohen Eliminated in 25th Place ($7,180)

Michael Cohen - 25th Place
Michael Cohen - 25th Place
Blake Purvis has just added a few more chips to his ever-growing stack with the recent elimination of Michael Cohen. In a hand that virtually played itself, all of the money went in pre-flop; Purvis' with pocket aces and Cohen's with pocket kings.

Purvis would end up spiking a third ace on the flop and when the {4-Spades} fell on the turn, Cohen's day was officially done. After the hand, Purvis piled up ~260,000 in chips.

Chips Change Hands

Cory Albertson comes into the pot raising, makes it 8,500 to go. Gabe Costner, seated on the button, puts in 20,000 more, making it 28,500 total. Without much delay, Albertson re-re-raises for the rest of his chips, approximately 85,000 more.

Costner has about the same amount of chips, and he tanks for several minutes. "I don't think you have sh*t," he says, irritated.

"Yeah, I normally make plays like this with 5-7 offsuit," Albertson fires back.

After a couple minutes, Costner, looking frustrated, tosses his cards away and swallows the loss of nearly 30,000 hard-earned chips.

Gary Friedlander Eliminated in 26th Place ($7,180)

Gary Friedlander
Gary Friedlander
Gary Friedlander of Bellaire, TX has just been eliminated from the tournament in 26th place by Chuck Kelley. According to Friedlander, all of the money went in preflop in what turned out to be a battle of the blinds; Friedlander's with Q-J, and Kelley's with 9-8. The board ran out 5-5-9-4-K and Kelley took down the pot with two pair, nines and fives, to eliminate Friedlander from the championship event. The Texan will take home $7,180 in prize money for his efforts.

Underneath The Beard

David Fox
David Fox
Doug "Rico" Carli and Allen Kessler are trying to figure out if David Fox is still left in the field. When they find out that he is no longer in the tournament, Carli comments, "Well, I guess he's going to have to keep the beard."

Kessler chuckles before explaining that the reason Fox has such a long, shaggy beard is because he hasn't run well recently and refuses to shave before he can go deep into a tournament. With his elimination before the money, Fox's beard is left to grow longer and be seen at a future event.

The Bubble Bursts

Jack Schanbacher
Jack Schanbacher
Actions folds around to Marc Fratter in the small blind. Fratter raises the action up to 9,000. Jack Schanbacher looks at his cards and then moves all in for just over 30,000 total. The players around the table stand up in anticipation that Fratter will make the call.

Fratter makes the call with the {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and Schanbacher turns over the {A-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}. The same hands that were involved in a hand that doubled Schanbacher up earlier. Schanbacher is going to need to improve again here in order to stay alive in the field.

The tournament announcer allows all other hands to end before allowing the action of this hand to run.

Schanbacher removes himself from his comfortable massage and stands up to watch his fate. The flop is no help for Schanbacher with the {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}{J-Spades}. The turn is the {5-Clubs} and the river is the {3-Spades}. Schanbacher is eliminated in 28th position and is the bubble boy.

Some of the other players in the tournament that were waiting for the bubble to burst have offered Schanbacher a couple hundred dollars each in cash as a nice gesture.

Bubble Boy?

We have an all in and a call on Table 13. Devin Jarreau and Blake Purvis get all their money in before the flop, and the entire room gathers around as we await the outcome.

Purvis wishes Jarreau luck, who laments his precarious position, being at risk of an out-of-the-money finish. "Who are you kidding, nobody here is rooting for me!" he exclaims. "Everyone throw $100 on the floor for me."

From across the room, Marc Fratter hollers, "I'm not going to have $100 until they pay me!" which draws a rare belly laugh from the whole room.

A few players, Ed Jatho and Floyd Vanderford among them, draw $100 bills from their pockets, content to pay Jarreau off to ease the situation in a show of classic sportsmanship.

The hands are turned over, with Purvis showing {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}, and Jarreau racing him with the {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}.

Salvation comes on the flop, as the dealer runs a board of {K-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}, and Jarreau doubles up to stay alive.

"You all hate me, I'm sorry!" he says, grinning.

So, we're still stuck at 28 for the time being.

Magic Bottle?

Jeff Tims has gone through the entire tournament with a bottle of contact solution for his eyes. Despite having to wash out his contact lenses every few minutes, Tims seems to be doing pretty well. He clearly doesn't have an issue reading the cards or his opponents, as he has amassed a chip stack over 180,000.
