Captain Tom Franklin is chatting up his table, and it has become the most talkative and friendly in the room. There is a younger internet player in Seat 1, and Franklin has taken to picking fun at him. In the last pot, the young player opened with an early-position raise to 1,200. Immediately, Captain Tom piped up, "Hey, hold on kid, it's my big blind!" Everyone chucked as they pitched in their cards. The small blind and Franklin both called, and it was three-handed to the flop.

"What does he have? Pocket aces?" asked Franklin to the player beside him. "We can crack pocket aces!" Again, more chuckles.

The flop came down {7-Spades}

, and all three men checked.

"Ahhh! He had a set of aces and he checked it to us!"

Fourth street was the {8-Spades}

, and Franklin grabbed control now with a bet of 2,000. The young opponent called while the small blind ducked out, and it was heads up with one to come.

River: {9-Hearts}

. Franklin kept firing, this time grabbing 2,500 chips and flicking them in. "That set of aces ain't lookin' so strong now, is it?!" jested Franklin. After a moment or two, the young player folded, and the pot was pushed to Captain Tom, much to his delight.

If he can keep dragging all the pots and entertaining his table, Captain Tom Franklin could be a force to be reckoned with over the course of the next two days.

Captain, There Are Aces Off the Starboard Bow

Preflop, "Captain" Tom Franklin raised to 1,200 and was called by two other players. The flop fell {A-Hearts}

and action was checked to Franklin who led out 2,200. The player in the nine seat called and the player in the four seat raised to 5,000. Franklin made the call and the nine seat followed along.

The turn fell the {5-Clubs}

and action was checked around.

The river fell the {J-Diamonds}

and action was checked to Franklin. Franklin bet 12,000 and then the talking began.

The nine seat sat and continued to contemplate his call. He said, "Play smart Tony."

After a bit, he stood up and started to stare at Franklin.

Franklin: "What? You gonna date me?"

Seat nine: "I started off liking you, but I don't think I like you at all now."

The table erupted into laughter.

Seat nine finally folded and told Franklin, "I got counterfeited on the river."

Franklin: "You got lucky?"

Seat nine was now clearly agitated and said, "Oh really Tommy? I got lucky? Don't tell me that. I had A-3"

Franklin said, "You were drawing dead then."

Seat nine: "I wasn't drawing dead. Quads could win the hand."

Franklin: "Think about the action. After the flop you were drawing dead."

Seat nine continued to argue the point and Franklin said, "Think about it. I raised preflop and then bet out on the flop. The flop came all hearts, so I could only call. Think about it."

Franklin had to finally tell the player he had pocket aces.

A New Chip Leader Rises

Jeremy Byrum has emerged as the new chip leader with around 113,000 chips. We have not witnessed any huge pots from him, but according to the table, he has been steadily chipping up all day.

Preflop, a player in the four seat raised to 1,500 and action was folded around to Tom Franklin in the big blind. He was in a conversation with another player and slowly looked at his cards. He then capped them and said, "It's only 1,100 to me? I've got to see that then." As the dealer pulled in the pot, Franklin said, "But, I'll check to you."

The flop fell {2-Diamonds}

. The four seat checked.

Franklin: "What?"
Four Seat: "I check."
Franklin: "Really? My turn again then?"
Four Seat: "No, I checked."
Franklin: (slyly smirking) "Ya, but I wanted another chance."

The turn fell the {J-Clubs}

and the four seat said, "You have your chance."
Franklin checked again and the four seat followed in turn.

Franklin: "Give me a deuce."

The river fell the {3-Spades}

Franklin: "That's close enough. I bet 15."
Four Seat: "Ok. I call."
Franklin: "Wait a second. At least think about it."
Four Seat: "No, I call. I have king-high, but I want to see what you have."

Franklin smiled and turned over {6-?}

and his opponent shows {K-?}

and failed to improve, spelling his demise.

The Dinner Bell Approaches

The pace of bustouts likely will pick up now that we are approaching the dinner break. Some of the shorter stacks will take a risk of busting out of the event over having to wait an hour and a half to come back to a short stack.

Edler Makes a Stunning Call

Preflop, three players limped in, including Bill Edler. The flop fell {2-Diamonds}

and action was checked to the eight seat, who bet out 2,500. Edler and one other player called.

The turn fell the {J-Diamonds}

and the eight seat bet out 3,300. Edler began to tank. He took a sip of his coffee while making his decision. He then asked for a count from the eight seat. The eight seat had over 15,000 left. Edler then took another drink from his coffee and looked as if he was trying to finish the coffee before calling. Finally, he made the call.

The river fell the {J-Clubs}

and again, the eight seat bet. This time he bet 6,000. Edler thought for a bit again before finally making the call.

Seat eight showed {8-?}

for jacks and eights. Edler showed {9-Diamonds}

for jacks and nines.

After the hand, Edler said, "I was sure that your pair was lower than jacks."

"Nice call, Bill," was all his opponent responded.

After the hand, Edler moved up to 36,000 chips.
