Hand By Hand We Go

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

There's a bit of confusion coursing through the tournament room right now, and the players are getting a little frustrated.

The floor staff appeared to be preparing to break a table, but we can't do that again until we get into the money. Nobody seemed sure exactly how many players were remaining for a couple minutes, so the action was paused for a head count. There are indeed 37 players remaining, so now we can get back at it. We'll be playing hand-for-hand until we find one more elimination, the unlucky bubble boy. Or girl.

Who'll be the odd one out?

UnderdogAri Can't Catch Up

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Ari Engel
Ari Engel

Matt Glantz opened the pot to 11,000, as he is fond of doing. Ari Engel has been eying up those raises the past few times, and this time he three-bet shoved all in for about 100,000 total. When it came back to Glantz, he didn't waste much time making the call with the covering stack.

Showdown
Glantz: {A-Spades} {Q-Spades}
Engel: {A-Clubs} {7-Diamonds}

The board was a big dry desert for the at-risk Engel, coming {5-Spades} {4-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {5-Clubs}. Engel came into the day in the top five in chips, but his run has come up short of the money by just a couple spots.

Glantz now has some chips to work with once again, sitting with around 280,000.

Leah Leaves Town

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Mike Leah
Mike Leah

Mike Leah was the shortest stack in the room at the last break, though he seemed none too concerned about his fate. Returning to action, Leah got himself blinded all the way down to 12,500 before he moved all in from the small blind. Big blind Will Heger didn't have much of a decision to make with {K-Spades} {J-Hearts}, calling to put Leah and his {9-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} at risk.

Board: {6-Clubs} {8-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} {A-Clubs}

Leah flopped a gutterball but could not find anything further to work with, and "GoLeafsGoEh" has gone. Eh?

Less For Morgousky

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

From the small blind, Chris Bonita open-shoved his 66,000 chips into the middle, putting a tough decision on big blind Mike Morgousky. The latter had just 66,500 chips in front of him, debating his {K-Spades} {10-Diamonds} for nearly all his chips. Finally, he did call, and he was out in front of Bonita's {7-Hearts} {8-Hearts} for the time being.

The flop, however, came {8-Spades} {5-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} to pull Bonita into a big lead with two to come. The turn {3-Spades} and river {J-Spades} were no help to Morgousky, dropping all but 500 of his chips to his opponent. Bonita's double up puts him back to 136,000.

Morgousky was all in for the ante and eliminated on the next hand.

Terry Does Not Tarry

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Robert Hwang came in raising to 12,000, and Todd Terry moved all in for about 60,000 next door. When it came back around to Hwang, he quickly called with the slightly larger stack to put Terry at risk.

Showdown
Hwang: {J-Spades} {J-Hearts}
Terry: {9-Clubs} {9-Hearts}

Terry stood up and gathered his things as the dealer ran out an unhelpful board: {Q-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {A-Spades} {2-Diamonds}. That's all she wrote for Terry, eliminated just a few spots shy of the money.

Don't Ly to Me

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

From the hijack seat, Adam Cook moved all in for about 62,000, and Tam Ly made the call from the button with the covering stack. And the dominating hand:

Cook: {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs}
Ly: {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}

There was nothing for Cook to work with on the {4-Hearts} {4-Spades} {2-Spades} {9-Hearts} {5-Clubs} board, and he has been eliminated. Ly moves over 300,000 with that win; put him down for 305,000 right now.

Engel Ships the Double

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Ari "BodogAri" Engel
Ari "BodogAri" Engel

The last hand before the break...

Stanley Haythorne opened the pot to 12,000, and Ari Engel stuck in a three-bet from the small blind. Haythorne four-bet shoved over the top, and Engel called all in for 52,600 total to put himself at risk. He was well ahead, however:

Haythorne: {9-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}
Engel: {K-Hearts} {K-Spades}

The board wouldn't bad beat Engel as it came {6-Hearts} {A-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {2-Spades} {K-Diamonds} to give him the winning set and the double up. He's up over 110,000 now, knocking Haythorne down around 60,000.

Breaking Things

Level 18 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

We've played our first two levels of the day, and the players are being dismissed for a 15-minute break. Before they leave, however, the black T100 chips are being raced off and colored up. We'll be back in about 20 minutes with a fresh batch of chip counts for you.
