Engel Hits Some Turbulence

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

In middle position, Will Heger opened the pot to 7,500, and Artie Smith called in the cutoff seat. On the button, Ari Engel squeezed in a raise to 24,200, folding Heger but stringing Smith along to the flop.

The dealer spread out {7-Spades} {6-Hearts} {5-Diamonds}, and both players checked to the {10-Diamonds} turn. Smith checked again, and Engel took his cue to bet 28,400 at the pot. No dice. Smith announced a raise but fumbled his chips for a few seconds and eventually was forced to make a minimum raise to 56,800. Engel called.

That brought the {K-Spades} to the river, and Smith moved all in with the larger stack. Engel could not call; he surrendered his cards into the muck, dropping down to 115,000 in the process, less than half the stack he began with an hour ago. Smith, on the other hand, is doing quite well. He appears to be the chip leader, in fact, sitting pretty with about 315,000 in front of him.
