Bye, Bye, Bari

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante
Allen Bari
Allen Bari

There was a raise and five calls in the pot before Allen Bari squeezed in a shove, all in. The initial raiser folded, as did a few of the callers, but Dwyte Pilgrim made the call to put Bari at risk. And the news was not good for Mr. Bari as he soon found out that his pocket jacks had run into Pilgrim's two queens.

There was no help on board for either player, and Bari has been sent to the exit with a scowl. Pilgrim has nearly doubled up over the first six hours or so, sitting now with 58,000.

Lee Gets Some More

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

The under-the-gun player raised to 800 and Bernard Lee called from the big blind.

The flop came down {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{7-Spades} and Lee checked. His opponent bet 1,500 and Lee called, leading to the {6-Clubs} on the turn. Both checked and when the {4-Clubs} fell on the river, Lee bet 3,100. His opponent called and Lee tabled {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}, good enough to win and up his stack to about 45,000.

That Raise-y Feeling

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

There's plenty of action around the room right now, just not much movement to show for it. Here's a smattering of the four hands we watched on the way back to our desk:

1) A player opened to 750 from early position, and "Miami" John Cernuto called in the cutoff seat. On the button, Jim Collopy squeezed in a reraise to 2,675, and the initial raiser promptly four-bet to 6,250. Cernuto and Collopy folded in turn.

2) It was a limpy pot. Will "The Thrill" Failla, Curt Kohlberg, Brent Roberts, and David Peters all came into the pot for the minimum in the first four seats, and action to Brett Richey. From late position, he raised to 3,000 straight, and everyone folded, Roberts inadvertently flashing {8-Spades} {10-Spades} as he did.

3) A player in early position raised to 750, and the gentleman next to him flat-called. Next door to them, Matt Brady moved all in for 6,475, and he coaxed folds out of the rest of the table to add more than 2,000 chips to his stack.

4) On the turn of a {7-Spades} {5-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {10-Hearts} board, John Racener checked, and his heads-up opponent bet 4,700. Racner elected to check-raise all in for the ~21,000 his opponent had left, and a long tank-fold sent the pot to the WSOP Main Event runner up.

The Numbers!

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

We have them.

Officially, 136 players turned up for this second-ever Regional Championship, and they are being warmly thanked for their presence by T.D. Jack Effel as we speak. Their entries have generated a prize pool of $1,279,624 that will be shared by the final 15 finishers. The bottom payout is worth $21,600, and each of the final nine are guaranteed at least $32,362 (plus their entry into the National Championship). The final four will all score four figures, and the eventual champion will be pocketing $358,295 and the shiny gold and diamond ring.

Kelly Takes Out Stammen

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

Dan Kelly min-raised to 600 from the cutoff and Keven Stammen popped it to 1,700 from the small blind.

Kelly called and the flop came down {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}. Stammen checked and Kelly did the same, leading to the {Q-Diamonds} turn card. Stammen bet 1,700 and Kelly meticulously raised to 5,250. Stammen thought for about two minutes, before sliding in the rest of his stack, except for one T5,000 chip. Kelly called before realizing Stammen still had 5,000 left, so each saw the {6-Hearts} follow on the river.

Stammen check-called the last 5,000 for his tournament life, seeing Kelly turned over {J-Spades}{10-Spades} for the nuts. Stammen mucked and headed out, while Kelly chipped up to about 63,000.

Sands Wins Some, Loses Some

Level 6 : 150/300, 25 ante
Dave Sands
Dave Sands

In early position, Dave "Doc" Sands raised to 850 to open the pot. A couple seats over, Drew Milstein tried to three-bet shove for 3,475, but he only put his three orange chips out first, and the dealer made him save the other 475 due to the string bet. Next door to him, a third player moved all in for 19,600, and action came back around to Sands. He took his time to make sure before calling and turning up {K-Spades} {K-Clubs}. There was still action pending on Milstein's string bet, however, but even at the sight of Sands' kings he had little decision to make with his {Q-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}; he called all in, and the third player tabled {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} to put a big pot up for grabs.

Board: {9-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}

"Queen!" Milstein yelled on the river, as surprised as anyone to have hit his two-outer. Two outs is plenty to triple up this time, and Milstein is back to respectability with more than 10,000 chips. Sands takes the side pot, and he's trended his way up to about 37,250 now.

Mizzi Busts Gregg

Level 5 : 100/200, 25 ante
Sorel Mizzi
Sorel Mizzi

We caught up with the action on an {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop. Sorel Mizzi and Anthony Gregg were involved in a raising war, with Gregg finding himself all in for about 30,000 with {4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, up against Mizzi's {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. The {9-Hearts} turn card kept Gregg ahead, but Mizzi caught the {K-Clubs} river card to make the better pair and eliminate Gregg.

Mizzi upped his stack to about 83,000.
