A Little Elimination

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Jonathan Little
Jonathan Little

Seth Fischer opened to 7,000 before Jonathan Little shoved his ~50,000 into the middle. There wasn't too much of a decision for Fischer and his big stack, and he quickly called with {8-Spades} {8-Diamonds}. That wasn't what Little wanted to see at all, and his {6-Spades} {6-Diamonds} looked like it'd be the last hand of his tournament.

Indeed it would; the board ran {K-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {A-Clubs} and that's no help at all to Little. He's been eliminated in 23rd place just a few spots shy of the money. On the flip side, that knockout pot gives Fischer the chip lead with right at 500,000 now.

Hearts A'Plenty

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

In early position, Eugene Katchalov raised to 7,000, and he found calls from Dan Kelly (hijack) and Chris Klodnicki (cutoff). The three of them took a {K-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} flop, and Katchalov continued out with a bet of 15,500. Kelly folded without incident, but Chris Klodnicki raised to 37,500 with position. Katchalov called.

Heads up now, the {J-Spades} hit fourth street, and Katchalov check-called another 47,000 chips. That led them to the {A-Diamonds} river, and there was no slowing down now. Klodnicki fired 94,000 at the pot, and Katchalov check-called once again.

In a statistical anomaly, both men had flopped their flushes, but Klodnicki's {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts} was the stone-cold nuts. Katchalov flashed his {5-Hearts} {7-Hearts} before they hit the muck, and his chip stack has taken a hit of its own. He's down to 168,000 after that exchange, while Klodnicki climbs to 448,000 and into second place.

Berg Sinks

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Eli Berg
Eli Berg

Eli Berg and Jason Burt got it all in preflop with Berg racing for his tournament life.

Showdown
Berg: {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}
Burt: {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}

The {10-Hearts} {4-Spades} {3-Spades} flop was a swing and a miss for Burt, but the turn was much more in his neighborhood. The {A-Spades} peeled off the deck, and Berg was dead to the two-out queen. The river was the {8-Clubs} though, and his day has come to an end in 24th place.

Burt is up to about 300,000 now, and we'll get a better count once he finishes stacking that pot.

From Rags to Richey; Nair Doubles Again

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Jay Nair shoved his 24,700 chips into the middle from early position, and Brett Richey called all the way around in the big blind. When the cards were turned up, the news was not good for the all-in player:

Nair: {K-Diamonds} {J-Spades}
Richey: {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs}

things would improve in a hurry for Nair, however, as the dealer put a friendly {K-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {6-Spades} flop down on board. Richey was now drawing to a ten for Broadway or his ace for a better pair. The turn {Q-Spades} was a blank, and the river {9-Hearts} was safe for Nair as well. He's doubled up to 54,000 after being under 10,000 a couple orbits ago.

Richey drops to 110,000 after unwillingly granting that double.

Sands Runs Out of Chips

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Dave "Doc" Sands
Dave "Doc" Sands

In early position, Eugene Katchalov raised to 7,000, and Todd Terry flat-called two seats over. On the button, Doc Sands squeezed all in for 80,500, and Katchalov called to put him at risk. Terry was apparently contemplating a big decision, though, and it took a few minutes for him to finally surrender, flashing his {J-Hearts} {J-Clubs} as he did. Sands was at risk, and it was showdown time:

Katchalov: {9-Hearts} {9-Clubs}
Sands: {6-Diamonds} {6-Spades}

Sands couldn't find anything useful on the {A-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {10-Hearts} {K-Spades} {5-Clubs} board, and he has been eliminated in 25th place. Sands was the last one left of the four finalists from the Midwest Regional Championship who played this event. His exit guarantees a fresh set of faces for the second of the televised Regionals, the stage for which is being constructed in the room next door as we speak.

Nair Doubles Back

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Jay Nair was down to just 9,100 chips when he three-bet shoved against Dan Kelly's under-the-gun raise. Kelly called the extra few chips to put Nair at risk when it came back around, and the cards were on their backs:

Nair: {K-Spades} {J-Spades}
Kelly: {A-Spades} {Q-Clubs}

Nair flopped lucky on the {3-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {K-Clubs}, and the turn {8-Clubs} and river {8-Diamonds} have taken Nair the first step towards being back in this thing. He's back to 25,900, while Kelly takes a slide down to 65,000 or so.

Ante: 400

Victor Victorious

Level 16 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Jay Nair raised to 6,100 to open the pot, and he found calls from Todd Terry and both blinds -- Doc Sands in the small and Victor Ramdin in the big.

Four ways to the flop, the dealer rolled out {7-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {K-Clubs}, and the blinds checked to the raiser. Nair continued out with 16,000, folding Terry and Sands without incident. Ramdin, however, wasn't going anywhere. After a minute to consider, he raised all in for 80,000, and Nair snap-called to put him at risk.

Showdown
Nair: {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}
Ramdin: {K-Spades} {10-Spades}

Ramdin's kicker was no good, and he was two cards from the exit.

Turn: {10-Clubs}. It's a good day to be Victor Ramdin. The three-outer lands promptly on fourth street, and now it's Nair drawing slim for most of his own chips. The river was a blank {6-Spades} to lock it up for Ramdin, and his double has knocked Nair down to just 15,000 chips.
