Better Call, Saul

Kevin Saul
Kevin Saul

We only caught the tail end of this pot, but we can make some assumptions based on what we saw. When we joined the action Kevin Saul was in a heads-up pot with the gentleman in the nine seat. There were four cards out on the {A-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {8-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} board. Mr. Nine Seat was already all in for about 60,000 when we walked up, and his {A-Spades} {K-Clubs} was face-up in front of him. That leads us to assume that he got all in on the flop, but his hand was in bad shape. Saul was showing {6-Clubs} {8-Clubs}, one card from the knockout with trips.

River: {A-Diamonds}.

Mr. Nine Seat made a motion to stand up before the dealer halted him and began to count down his stack. It was another couple moments before he realized that he'd made the winning aces full, and Saul paid off the debt to slip back under 200,000.

"You've Got a Face for Radio"

Mark Kroon
Mark Kroon

We found the always entertaining Mark Kroon in a hand with Doug Hutcheson. The board read {6-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} and Hutcheson checked. Kroon bet out 6,600, Hutcheson raised to 16,000 and Kroon three-bet immediately to 31,000.

Hutcheson wasted little time moving all in for an additional 40,000. "I think you have jacks," Kroon said. "But just one jack. Will you show if I fold?"

"If you fold face up then I'll fold face up," Hutcheson replied.

"You've got a real soothing voice, do you do any work for radio?" Kroon asked.

"I've been told that before."

"Yeah, you've got a face for radio too," Kroon jabbed. He folded his cards face down and Hutcheson decided to show {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades} regardless.

Woody Steps into a Disaster

Charles Moore
Charles Moore

Charles "Woody" Moore was up in the mix of the chip leaders until this monster of a pot broke out. Chris Conrad was the initial raiser, and there were several callers along the way before the action came around to Moore. He looked down at two kings and stuck in a big squeeze of a reraise. Conrad moved all in for 116,900 total to fold the rest of the table out of the way. When Moore called, though, Conrad tabled his superior {A-Spades} {A-Clubs}.

Moore could not catch up on the {J-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {6-Spades} board, and he's been parted with a big chunk of his stack. Conrad is the big beneficiary as he chips up close to 250,000, while Moore is left with about 70,000 with which to mount a comeback.

It's nice to be able to lose a chip-leading pot and still have an average stack.

Nut Flush is No Good

Level 13 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

We wish we had more details on how the hand played out. But we can tell you Chris Trautwein doubled up on a board of {9-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {Q-Clubs}. His opponent looked to be good when he tabled {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs} for the nut flush and a seemingly unbeatable hand. Then Trautwein turned up {10-Clubs} {8-Clubs} for the straight flush.

Two More Gone

Joe Cappuccio and Austen Johnson were in this Main Event ten minutes ago. But for the last ten minutes, they've both been standing near Ryan Eriquezzo's table looking a little glum and talking quietly through some hands.

A quick check on their former seats finds them absent of chips, and we think it's safe to assume Cappuccio and Johnson have been eliminated.

Hutcheson Sticks Around

Doug Hutcheson was down to 31,100 when he three-bet shoved in late position. The small blind cold-called, the initial raise folded, and Hutcheson was heads up for his tournament life. And he was dominated.

Showdown
Hutcheson: {K-Hearts} {Q-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Spades} {Q-Spades}

The {3-Spades} {2-Clubs} {2-Spades} flop was about as blank as it gets, but the turn {K-Clubs} was just what Dr. Hutcheson ordered. The river came the {10-Clubs}, and Mr. Opponent has been parted with all but a few thousand of his chips. Hutcheson finds the come-from-behind double, and he's back close to 70,000 after a rough start to his Day 2.
