Phillips Drops a Pot

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

With about 1,000 in the pot and a flop of [jh6hq], the player in the small blind checked and Bill Phillips bet 525. The player in the cutoff called, as did the small blind and then all three players checked the {A-Spades} turn.

When the {5-Clubs} completed the board on the river, the big blind checked, Phillips bet 24,000 and the cutoff folded. The big blind made the call with {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a pair of aces, and it was good as Phillips sent his cards to the muck unseen.

Despite losing that pot, Phillips is still up a bit from the starting stack with 24,000.

Baker Off to a Better Start on Day 1b

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

David "ODB" Baker played in yesterday's flight, but he even admitted on social media that he didn't play his best poker. It appears Baker may have brought his "A" game today.

We happened upon a recent hand with 3,500 already in the pot and a board reading {7-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{q-Spades}{3-Spades}. A player in middle position checked and Baker fired out 1,150. It proved enough to get the job done as his opponent simply mucked.
