Phillips Drops a Pot
With about 1,000 in the pot and a flop of [jh6hq], the player in the small blind checked and Bill Phillips bet 525. The player in the cutoff called, as did the small blind and then all three players checked the turn.
When the completed the board on the river, the big blind checked, Phillips bet 24,000 and the cutoff folded. The big blind made the call with for a pair of aces, and it was good as Phillips sent his cards to the muck unseen.
Despite losing that pot, Phillips is still up a bit from the starting stack with 24,000.

Masek's Day is Done
A dejected Alex Masek, who has six rings to his credit, made his way over to our desk to inform us that he had been eliminated from the tournament. According to him it happened after he ran kings into aces preflop.
Masek, who has a seat locked up in the National Championship, has no choice but to wait around for that event to start on Wednesday. Fortunately for him, there are still some WSOP Circuit tournaments to be played here at Harrah's New Orleans, and of course there's plenty to do just a few blocks away on Bourbon Street.
And busted day 1B of Nola main w/o winning a showdown. Only won pots by 3betting pre, then 3bet/5bet KK into AA to bust.. GL to the homiesMay 18 2013Follow

Baker Off to a Better Start on Day 1b
David "ODB" Baker played in yesterday's flight, but he even admitted on social media that he didn't play his best poker. It appears Baker may have brought his "A" game today.
We happened upon a recent hand with 3,500 already in the pot and a board reading . A player in middle position checked and Baker fired out 1,150. It proved enough to get the job done as his opponent simply mucked.
