Jewell Done and Dusted

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Kurt Jewell
Kurt Jewell

Kurt Jewell has a reputation as an action player, and his chip counts often reflects that. He either wins big or loses big, and his five WSOP Circuit rings are evidence of that. Unfortunately for Jewell, he won't be adding a bracelet to that here in New Orleans.

In a recent hand Brock Parker opened for 2,200 only to have Jewell three-bet all in for 28,100. Parker thought long and hard before making the call, and he seemed pleased that he got it in good.

Jewell: {J-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Parker: {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

He may have had the best hand, but Jewell was drawing to live cards. The {6-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Hearts} gave Jewell some gutshot straights outs, but neither the {3-Hearts} turn nor {Q-Hearts} river would help him.

"Good game, guys," Jewell said before making a beeline for the door.

Jivkov Sent Packing

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Nick Jivkov
Nick Jivkov

Valentin Vornicu led out for 3,500 on a flop of {j-Spades}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts}. Nick Jivkov raised to 8,600 on his direct left, and then Vornicu grabbed a stack of gray T5,000 chips, moving all in for effectively 35,000 or so. Jivkov tank-called.

Vornicu: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Jivkov: {j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

The {a-Diamonds} turned, giving Jivkov a flush draw, but the {9-Clubs} completed the board, giving Jivkov quads.

The Chicagoan was eliminated, while Vornicu is once again our chip leader with around 190,000.

Wood Cut Down; Garcia Follows Him Out the Door

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

After Jason Koon opened for 1,800 from the hijack, IP Biloxi Casino Champ Cory Wood moved all in for 19,000 from the cutoff. Ashly Butler then moved all in over the top for 41,500 on the button, both blinds folded and Koon shot back in his chair.

"Holy moly," Koon said, "we've got the {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}." Koon, who had 48,000 or so behind, decided to save his chips and folded. "Watch me flush out," he said upon discovering that Butler held the same hand with the {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}, which was well out in front of Wood's {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Sure enough, the board ran out {4-Spades}{q-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and Koon would have won a massive pot had he played.

For more on Wood, who hails from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, check out the interview he did with PokerNews after he won the IP Biloxi Casino Championship.

Meanwhile, Bicycle Casino Main Event Champion Baptiste Chavaillaz and at-large qualifier Cord Garcia have both been eliminated. The latter fell to Ari Engel and said of his chips, "At least they went to a good spot."

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Allen Kessler
Allen Kessler

Allen Kessler was just eliminated when he ran his {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} into the {a-}{a-} of Steve Hesse. Hesse held, and Kessler hit the rail.
