Anyone can win a WSOP Circuit ring, but it takes a talented individual to win two. That’s what Mark Bonsack did in Event #6 $365 Limit Omaha 8 or Better when he topped a field of 134 players to win $11,254. The win gave Bonsack, who finished 12th in last year’s National Championship, his second non-hold’em ring—the other came in 2011 in a $365 H.O.R.S.E. event at Harvey’s Lake Tahoe for $7,484.

“Hopefully I’ll get back to [the National Championship] and have another chance at it,” said Bonsack, a 52-year-old contractor from Cle Elum, Washington. “I really want to get a bracelet. I probably still need a few more [points], but I’m close.”

After working his way through a final tables that included Brian Brashaw (9th), a past champion of the event; the notorious nitpicker Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler (8th); and 13-time WSOP Circuit casher Yossi Azulay (4th). When play was three handed, Bonsack played for nearly three hours against Shawn Marley and Curtis Timperley. The former eventually finished in third place and the latter as runner-up.

“From three-handed on, it was tough — back and forth. It was a long grind, so it was pretty rewarding to win it,” Bonsack said.

Ilich and Mayfield Both Firing their Second Bullet

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

We happened by table 31 with around 8,000 in the pot and a board reading {k-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. Drazen Ilich, who had busted in the last few hands of the Day 1a flight, fired out 4,200 from early position and put the pressure on Jason Mayfield, who if you recall won Event #4 earlier in the series. Mayfield gave it about 15 seconds worth of thoughts and then flicked his cards to the muck.

It wasn't much of a hand, but it gave us a good excuse to update you on their chip counts.

"Crazy" Larry the Life of the Party

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante
"Crazy" Larry Ormson
"Crazy" Larry Ormson

After busting Day 1a in quick fashion, Wisconsin's Larry Ormson re-entered on Day 1b and has been the life of the party. He has been seated at Table 33 for the past six hours and has been entertaining his tablemates. Granted, Ormson exuberance may be attributed to the numerous bottles of Korbel champagne he's bought and shared.

Often called "Crazy" Larry by Allen Kessler, Ormson explained the nickname. "Because I like a martini and wine with a meal, he thinks that is extravagant." For Kessler, that could very well be the case.

Ormson, who is donning some flashy headphones, is currently enjoying a massage and chatting up the table.

"One for the Older Generation"

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

Action folded to Larry Scholl in the cutoff and he opened for 1,025. Blair Hinkle responded with a three-bet to 4,350 from the big blind and Scholl thought for a solid minute before tossing in a call.

Hinkle led out for 2,700 on the {4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} flop, Scholl called, and the dealer burned and turned the {10-Clubs}. Hinkle bet again, this time 5,300, and Scholl woke up with a raise to 15,200. Hinkle insta-mucked and Scholl tabled {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}.

Bob Chow, who was seated at the table, seemed amused. "One for the older generaton," he said as Scholl smiled and stacked his chips.

Fink Continues to Roll

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante
Mark Fink won Event #10 $365 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo on Friday night for $15,835.
Mark Fink won Event #10 $365 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo on Friday night for $15,835.

Mark Fink, who won Event #10 $365 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo on Friday night for $15,835 and knocked out Mark "P0Ker H0" Kroon not too long ago, has struck again.

We caught the action on a board reading {9-Spades}{j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{k-Spades} when Fink and an unknown opponent got the chips in the middle. The latter was all in for 15,725 and ahead with the {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}, but Fink was drawing to both a straight and flush with the {Q-Spades}{8-Spades}. "Damnit," the unknown player exclaimed when the {3-Spades} spiked on the river to give Fink the said flush and the knockout.

Lee vs. Kirk

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

We didn't catch the hand, but Tripp Kirk and Bernard Lee informed us of a hand they hand played after the fact. According to them, Lee got his last 9,500 all in preflop holding {K-}{K-} and was up against the {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} of Kirk. The flop brought the {Q-Hearts} and {J-Hearts}, giving Kirk a royal flush draw, but he missed his plethora of outs and Lee doubled.

Some tournaments seem to drag on forever, but every once in awhile, one will finish in what seems like record time. That was the case with WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Council Bluffs Event #5 $365 No-Limit Hold’em, which began on Monday at 12 p.m. and lasted 21 levels. During that time the field of 186 players was trimmed to the final table of nine.

Those players returned on Tuesday and were cut down to the final two— Ryan Krauss and Pavlin Karakikov—in just three hours. The duo then played heads up for nearly four hours before Krauss was able to toppled Karakikov, who earned $8,962 for his runner-up finish.

“It feels great, man,” Krauss said after capturing the $14,505 first-place prize. “When we were head-to-head [Karakikov] was tough. He was playing tight and I had to grind it out a little bit.”

The 38-year-old investment advisor and instrument-rated pilot from Saint Paul, Nebraska overcame some stiff competition on the way to his first gold ring including WSOP gold bracelet champion and winner of Event #1 Nick Jivkov (10th) and 2011-2012 Horseshoe Council Bluffs Casino Champion Mike Nellis (5th).
