171 Entries for Day 1a of the WSOP International Circuit Main Event in Morocco

The first starting day of the 2015 World Series of Poker International Circuit Main Event at the Casino de Marrakech attracted a total of 171 entries, of which 63 bagged up chips after 12 levels of play. Of those entries, sixteen of them were second bullets for 15,000 Dirhams (€1,350) apiece. Ultimately it was Frederic Rizzo who shot to the top of the leader board at the end, accumulating astonishing 264,000 in chips and edging out Jorge Coello Esmoris's 239,800.

El Mostafa Ederoua, who finished third at the Winamax Poker Tour in Paris two weeks ago for €50,000, busted [Removed:253] at the end of level 11 and claimed 216,300 chips, good enough for third place overall. Other big stacks include Alexandre de Zutter (154,800), Mostafa Boukri (154,000), Masbah Ben Baba (153,700). Arnaud Peyroles (147,000) as well as recent World Poker Tour National Brussels finalist Miroslav Alilovic (138,000).

PMU Poker Team Pro Brian Benhamou (131,300) and Ludovic Riehl (111,000) also bagged up above-average stacks. Guillaume Darcourt was among the players to purchase a second bullet and tripled up at the very end.

Paul Francois Tedeschi (67,100), Fadhil Farag (48,000), Rebecca Gerin (47,400), Manuel Sadornil (47,200) and Anthony Rodrigues (22,800) will return with less than the average when the action resumes on Saturday at 14:00 local time.

Among those that didn't make it yet and have to re-enter Day 1b were such familiar names as Abdelhadi Kondah, Anas Tadini, Quentin Lecomte, Philippe Ktorza, Guillaume Diaz, Brahim Oubella, Frederic Hebette, Matas Cimbolas and Sonny Franco. It wasn't a bad day for Franco though as earlier in the day he took down Event #7 €540 DeepStack for a gold ring. In addition, Said El Yousfi from Switzerland also claimed a WSOP Circuit Ring today.

That's all for now, but make sure to tune back in tomorrow as of 14:00 local time for PokerNews Live Reporting when Day 1b gets underway in the heart of Morocco.

Darcourt Done for Now

Level 5 : 100/200, 25 ante
Guillaume Darcourt
Guillaume Darcourt

Down to 17,000 chips, Guillaume Darcourt saw a three-way flop of {J-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {3-Hearts} and the Frenchman as well as one opponent invested 2,000 each. The {K-} turn saw the check-raise all in of the opponent after Darcourt had bet 5,500 and was called off by the Frenchman with {K-} {J-} for top two pair.

The opponent turned over {K-Hearts} {4-Hearts} for a flopped flush and neither jack nor king saved Darcourt on a brick river. The Frenchman can still re-enter once until the end of level nine though.

Touali Takes Tadini

Level 5 : 100/200, 25 ante
Anas Tadini

"REBUY ON TABLE 8" Anas Tadini yelled after a flop of {4-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {A-Spades} and had moved all in for 9,850 chips.

Another short stack was also all in for 6,100 and Kamel Touali looked both up with {K-Spades} {7-Spades}. The short stack had the {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} and Tadini's {2-Spades} {9-Spades} were in a desperate shape.

The {Q-Spades} turn settled things for Touali to knock out two opponents and the meaningless {10-Diamonds} river completed the board.

Sonny Franco Wins Event 7

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante
Sonny Franco
Sonny Franco

The €540 DeepStack Event 7 saw two players returning for the WSOP Circuit Ring and it was Sonny Franco who emerged victorious. After a four-bet pot preflop and a continuation bet on the {2-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {K-Clubs} flop, the chips went in after the {9-Clubs} turn. Franco held the {Q-Hearts} {10-Spades} and Vitor Hugo from Portugal needed a king or jack with his {K-Spades} {J-Clubs}. The {7-Clubs} river was a brick and the French rail cheered.

Welcome to the WSOP Circuit Main Event in Marrakech

WSOP Circuit Marrakech
WSOP Circuit Marrakech

For the very first time, the World Series of Poker has been heading to Morocco to host the 2015 WSOP International Circuit Casino de Marrakech from March 7th to 15th 2015. The festival provides a total of 32 tournaments including eight "Ring Events".

The first starting day of the Circuit Main Event at the Casino Es Saadi gets underway in 30 minutes from now at 2 p.m. local time. All players receive 30,000 in chips in exchange for 15,000 Dirhams or €1,350. Should a participant run out of chips early, a single re-entry per day can be used to enter the competition once again, resulting in four bullets max as worst case scenario.

With cheap flights from France, Belgium, Spain and Portugal, many of these nationalities are expected to join the local crowd here in Morocco. Furthermore, Ben Warrington and Matas Cimbolas have already participated in the €540 No-Limit Hold'em Deepstack already and will most likely also try to earn a WSOP Circuit Ring in the Main Event as well.

Each Day 1 features levels of 45 minutes whereas as of Day 2 the level duration increases to 60 minutes and 75 minutes as of Day 3. The winner will be crowned on Sunday March 15th and the PokerNews team will be there to bring you all the good and bad beats from the felt.
