The Stage is Set; Bensimhon Leads Final 9 At Inaugural €1,650 WSOPC International Main Event Rotterdam

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Ben Bensimhon
Ben Bensimhon

On Day 3 of the €1,650 World Series of Poker International Circuit Main Event in Holland Casino Rotterdam, it took slightly less than six levels of 60 minutes each to whittle a field of 35 players down to the final nine. Ben Bensimhon, of Swiss origin, will be the chipleader at the final table with 1,692,000 in chips. Belgian star Bart Lybaert and Dutch high roller Govert Metaal also made the final table. Fatima Moreira de Melo held the dubious honor of bubbling the Main Event.

Each of the final nine players has already locked up €8,657 for reaching the final table. However, the lion's share of the €393,120 prize pool is still up for grabs, with a dazzling €94,349 and a coveted WSOP Circuit ring awaiting the conqueror of the inaugural WSOPC Main Event in Holland Casino Rotterdam.

The day started off with 35 out of 273 players. 30 of them would finish in the money, which would leave five poor souls empty-handed. After four bust-outs, including Tobias Peters, it was none other than Olympic Gold medalist Fatima Moreira de Melo who became the eventual bubble girl. Holding ace-queen of spades, De Melo shoved over an open raise from Lawrence Bayley, who called with pocket eights. Despite flopping a flush draw to go with the over cards, De Melo didn't get there and missed out on the money.

Once in the money, Jer El Salsero, Pim Kuipers and Marlon Vasilda were among those to bust quickly. Kees van Brugge, one of Holland's hottest up and coming players, finished in 22nd place after shoving pocket sixes into pocket tens. Niko Mykkanen, who finished 4th in the €3,500 High Roller earlier this week, finished in 19th place after losing ace-queen against Micha Hoedemaker's ace-king.

Austrian tournament specialist Robert Auer saw a deep run end in 17th place when he went all in with king-ten. Govert Metaal looked him up with pocket kings and Auer couldn't escape. Another MTT-notable, James Gilbert, got eliminated shortly after. Gilbert, with Metaal and Lybaert among the most accomplished players left in the field, was short stacked for most of the day and played his final hand when he shoved ace-jack into Bart Lybaert's pocket kings.

Raoul Refos, Wim Emo, Wladimir Stepanian, and Frits Heckler all just missed out on a WSOPC Main Event final table. During the last level of the day, a couple of brutal hands in a row set the stage for the final nine. Egi Adriaans was on the receiving end of a nasty beat. After losing a coin flip against Hoedemaker first, it was his nemesis who eliminated him shortly after as well. With pocket kings, Adriaans was all in against Hoedemaker's ace-queen but a queen on both the flop and the river send the Belgian to the rail in 11th place (€7,009).

Eric Sfez finished in 10th place and became the final table bubble boy. After losing to a brutal one-outer against Teun Mulder earlier, Sfez got his last chips in with pocket eights against Lybaert's pocket aces. Sfez couldn't improve and took home €7,009 for his tenth place finish.

With that, the final nine are known. Leading the field is Ben Bensimhon, draped in a pink bunny hood, who won a big pot against Bart Lybaert to claim the end of day chip lead. In a four-bet pot, Bensimhon check-called pocket nines on a trey-trey-eight-king board. The six on the river was checked by both players and Bensimhon's pair was good.

Other notables at the final table are the aforementioned Lybaert, who cashed no less that 10 times at the 2016 World Series of Poker. Lybaert is fresh off a 3rd place in the €1,100 PokerStars National Championship Barcelona, where he collected an astonishing €368,473. Govert Metaal also made his way to the final table. The Dutch high roller played a quiet day and slowly moved himself up the pack. Metaal will start as one of the short stacks and has his work cut out for him.

The final table will start on Saturday at 2 p.m. local time, with 1 minute and 24 seconds left in the 8,000/16,000 ante 2,000 level. After that, blinds will be 10,000/20,000 with an ante of 3,000 and levels will be 60 minutes. Seating for the final table hasn't been announced at this time; the seat draw for the final table will be held tomorrow before the start of the day. PokerNews will be on hand to provide live coverage of the first ever WSOP International Circuit Main Event final table in The Netherlands until the winner is crowned.

Eric Sfez Eliminated in 10th Place (€7,009)

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Eric Sfez
Eric Sfez

Eric Sfez open-shoved 272,000 on the button. Ben Bensihmon thought for a while before folding in the small blind. Bart Lybaert, however, had a far easier decision and snap-called in the big blind.

Eric Sfez: {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}
Bart Lybaert: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}

Sfez needed help or he would become the final table bubble. Help didn't arrive on a {5-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} board, making the Day 1a chipleader the 10th place finisher. Sfez received €7,009 as a consolation prize.

Mulder One-Outers River To Survive

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Teun Mulder
Teun Mulder

Govert Metaal opened the action with a raise to 32,000 in middle position. Teun Mulder shoved 346,000 in late position, Eric Sfez reshoved 476,000 from the blinds, and Metaal open-folded {A-}{Q-}.

Teun Mulder: {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Eric Sfez: {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}

Jakob Miegel spoke up and claimed to have folded {A-}{J-}, leaving just one ace in the deck. Slowly, the dealer dealt the {4-Spades}{J-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop and {5-Spades} turn.

Sfez and his best friend at the rail tensely stared at the felt as the dealer burned and turned the case {A-Hearts} on the river. A loud "non" reverberated through the casino, and Sfez watched in agony as the majority of his stack got shipped over to Mulder.

Bensimhon Takes Chip Lead In Four-Bet Pot

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Ben Bensimhon
Ben Bensimhon

Ben Bensimhon raised to 32,000 from the cutoff, Bart Lybaert three-bet to 85,000 on the button, Bensimhon four-bet to 220,000, and Lybaert called. On the {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{8-Spades} flop, Bensimhon continued with 120,000, and Lybaert called.

The turn was the {K-Spades} and Bensimhon checked. Lybaert cut out a bet of 190,000 and Bensimhon called, creating a pot of over 700,000 already.

The river was the {6-Hearts} and Bensimhon checked. Lybaert gave it a brief thought before checking behind.

Bensimhon showed {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} for nines and treys, and Lybaert mucked his hand.

Tricky Refos Doubles With Aces

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Raoul Refos
Raoul Refos

Moments ago, Raoul Refos was preflop all in with {A-}{J-} against Lawrence Bayley's {A-}{K-}. The board ran out {4-}{3-}{2-}{10-}{5-} to chop it up and keep Refos in the tournament.

Shortly after, Raoul Refos opened under the gun, Robert Auer called in the next seat, and Govert Metaal defended his big blind. The flop was {8-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and Metaal checked. Refos checked as well, Auer bet 34,000, Metaal folded, and Refos called.

On the {2-Spades} turn, Refos checked, Auer shoved, and Refos called all in for 176,000.

Robert Auer: {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}
Raoul Refos: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}

The river was the {6-Hearts} and Refos scored a full double-up.

Mykkanen Eliminated by Hoedemaker

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Niko Mykkanen
Niko Mykkanen

Niko Mykkanen opened to 16,000 in middle position and Micha Hoedemaker three-bet to 41,000 on the button. Mykkanen slid his stack of around 250,000 forward and Hoedemaker instantly flicked in a calling chip.

Niko Mykkanen: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}
Micha Hoedemaker: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

Hoedemaker was in prime position to knock the last Fin out and did so on a {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{A-Spades}{K-Clubs}{7-Spades} board. Mykkanen, who finished 4th in the €3,500 High Roller for €20,277 earlier this week, added €4,057 on top of that for his 19th place finish.

Fatima Moreira de Melo Bubbles the WSOP Circuit Rotterdam Main Event

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Fatima Moreira de Melo
Fatima Moreira de Melo

Lawrence Bayley raised in middle position, Fatima Moreira de Melo shoved 111,000 from the hijack, and Bayley called to put the last Olympic gold medalist at risk.

Lawrence Bayley: {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
Fatima Moreira de Melo: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

The people gathered around the feature table or looked at the screens to watch the action unfold. The flop was {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{6-Spades}, giving De Melo a flush draw to go with her overcards. She stood up from her chair to see the dealer put out the {3-Hearts} on the turn.

De Melo needed to hit the river if she was to survive but the {6-Diamonds} was a brick. She gave Bayley a hug and made her way to the exit. All other players are now guaranteed at least €2,665.

El Salsero Hanging On By A Thread

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Jer El Salsero
Jer El Salsero

Per Munksgaard limped from under the gun. Jer El Salsero made it two blinds from the small blinds, Munksgaard shoved, and El Salsero called.

Jer El Salsero: {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Per Munksgaard: {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

The {Q-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{6-Clubs} flop was devastating for El Salsero, who was left drawing to running straight cards. After the {8-Spades} turn and {9-Diamonds} river, El Salsero was left with three big blinds. He got those in the middle in the next hand with {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} against {J-Hearts}{8-Spades} and chopped on a double paired board with an ace.

Still short, El Salsero folded a few hands in a row, including his big blind, until he called all in from the small blind for 11,100 after Dwayne Sluis had opened. Bart Lybaert also called from the big blind and the {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{K-Spades}{10-Clubs} board got checked down.

Cards remained face-down until all action was completed, and El Salsero raised his hands up in the sky.

"Jer Salsero bubble!" he yelled, then paused a few seconds.

"... or maybe not," he smiled.

The cards were tabled and El Salsero showed {J-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} for rivered Broadway. Sluis and Lybaert mucked their respective holdings, and the flamboyant Dutchman raked in the pot to survive.

Jakob Miegel
Jakob Miegel

At the start of Day 3 of the inaugural €1,650 WSOPC Rotterdam Main Event, 35 out of 273 players are still in the hunt to capture the first ever Main Event WSOP Circuit ring in Holland. It's the penultimate day of one of the biggest tournaments in Holland, and a massive first place prize of €94,394 awaits the last player standing on Saturday, September 2nd.

Before that prize will be awarded, the money has to be reached first. 5 out of 35 will be going home empty-handed after more than two full days of playing, promising tense action right off the bat. Jakob Miegel holds pole position and boasts a stack of 680,000.

The German is followed by Britain's Lawrence Bayley (582,000) and Eric Sfez from France (484,500), who round out the international top three. The first Dutchman, Teun Mulder, is found in fourth place (439,000), and as expected the majority of remaining players sport the home nation's red, white, and blue.

Familiar names are aplenty in Holland Casino Rotterdam, with Govert Metaal (253,000), Bart Lybaert (195,000), Kees van Brugge (176,000), Olympic Gold medalist Fatima Moreira de Melo (106,500), Tobias Peters (95,500), and James Gilbert (71,000) all still in contention.

At 2 p.m. local time, cards will be in the air for the penultimate day of this four-day event. Blinds will start at 2,500 / 5,000 with a running ante of 500 and levels will be 60 minutes throughout the tournament. Play today is scheduled until the final table has been reached, at which point chips will be bagged and tagged for the final day on Saturday, September 2nd. Tune into PokerNews regularly to capture all of the excitement from the penultimate day as we enter the late stages.
